Sore muscles from gardening made yesterday slightly unpleasant, but not so much so that I couldn't deal. Wasn't busy, but made good money because the closing bartender called in sick and I was left to close Torture Bar by myself rather than just serving the tables. A good thing too, as I don't think anyone sat at the tables after about 5, and yet I had to wait until 7 to close.
Still sore in the thighs-- stairs are unpleasant both going up and coming down-- but my back is astonishingly unscathed. I think it's because I put on a corset and the clinging/warming/supporting action of the corset eased the muscles when they were freshly overtired, and so I've taken to putting on a corset whenever my back hurts. Which led to the amusing phenomenon last night of me shedding my work clothes, putting on a girdle, and then draping myself in ill-fitting jeans and an oversized long-sleeved tshirt last night-- what's the point of foundation undergarments with shapeless overgarments? But it was fitting, because upon my arrival home last night I almost immediately grabbed Z and we went out for... frozen custard. it was Chocolate Orange Marnier night at Anderson's, and that is not to be missed for something as petty as "dinner".

Have been strangely addicted to reading The Blog of Samuel Pepys (really it's just Pepys' diary republished in blog format). I've started at the beginning and am only as far as 1661, but it's an incredible mix of boring and fascinating all at once.
Some of the food he mentions sounds awful, but some sounds quite good. I would love to try a venison pasty.

My birthday approaches rapidly. I am definitely going out of town from Friday morning until Saturday night. So Z and I will go out Thurs. night to celebrate my birthday, and I think we'll go to Shannon Pub because they have steak & Guinness stew. Which I want.
So.
I'm excited about that-- I'm working 9-5 on Thursday so I can eat! dinner! with z! at a reasonable hour!
Ah well. It's the little things, isn't it?

Chocolate Orange Marnier

Ice cream (and frozen custard) amazes me. It seems to make everyone happy. It lifts a person's mood, even if you're not in a bad mood to begin with. I get a kick out of seeing adults standing around the concession stand at the lake, and they're as into eating their cones as the kids are.
