Ow.
Have just spent about 5 hours (with an intermission to make chili because I didn't know what else to do with the about fourteen ripe tomatoes I had) in the garden. That big bed of weeds along the garage?
It had some irises and some daylilies in it. The daylilies were a sort of boring orange, six feet high, and the irises... well, only one of them bloomed.
My mother, while I was home (yes I know almost two weeks ago shut up I'm not a bad plantmommy! I just have time issues) gave me a pot each full of irises and (red, I think) daylilies from her garden, in lieu of buying them for me from white flower farms for $10 a chunk. So really, those two little pots were like... About $35 worth of irises, and $40 worth of lilies. Just, a lot less glamorous, and also entirely not labeled, so all I have is the wilting foliage (above the perennial roots/bulbs/rhizomes/what-have-you) to suggest what the hell they're going to look like next year. No idea, honestly.
But anyhow. I now have a bed that's going to be gorgeous next spring, maybe.

I also have a really, really sore back, tired arms, and sore legs, and my feet are killing me. And at the moment, the flower bed just sort of pretty much looks like hell.

C'est la vie. It's a stupid hobby, what can I say?
But my back fence morning glories are blooming and look fabulous-- pinks, blues, whites, purples all in the chain link and up the twine bean trellis. And my second crop of peas-- well, the sugar snap peas are actually starting to bear fruits. Which is neat. Not quite ready yet to eat, but what the hey-- actually peas, which is hella somethin'. I guess.

My back is killing me. I think I need a nap.

In other news the latest software update of my iPod has put Shuffle Songs in the main menu. Z turned it on while we were driving back from Cortland-- I never have, because my music collection is over 7000 songs and a scary little proportion of them are like malevolent little bombs of What Was I Thinking. But for the last more than a week I've just sort of left it on there, and it has been continually pleasantly surprising me for hours now. Certain artists I kinda Audiogalaxied at random and have never organized the resulting incorrectly-labeled dumps of Sweet Music, but the Shuffle Songs function fears them not, and lo! I am astonished by the odd little gems I possess.

I know I had a ton of things I needed to do today, beyond just the gardening, but I really can't remember what it was. At the moment the muscles in my back are just so tired... I'm considering putting on my scary steel-boned Ren Faire corset just to give them a bit of a rest. Which would be rather nutty of me, but then, we all knew I was a Total Freaking Psycho, and I might as well be a comfortable one.

Oh! I know what needs doing: postcards. :D I'd do packages too but the post office is so far and I am so tired and my bike is so, er, right there and ready to go. But me-- I'm not. Oh the pain.
Shh, I know what a Total Wussy Girl I am and I think it's my prerogative to wallow in that while I must. I just spent five hours transforming a pile of weeds into a pile of mud with straggly dead leaves sticking out of it, and I won't see any positive results until April at the earliest. So I think I'm justified, at the moment.
