Have gotten far, far too much sleep this "weekend" (this being the second of two days off in a row for me). And yet, this cold I've been fighting, it just gets worse. Bastards!
I got very little done yesterday and yet somehow it was a full day. Measured the front yard. I might make image files out of the maps I've drawn and try to make some sort of poll about my next year's garden; I have both yards laid out in a graphing program.
I did tear out another foot-wide strip of sod all along the back fence, and am putting in more peas there. Did I mention that? I think I did. But I feel accomplished. And we finally got about a half-inch of rain, which is something after all. I filled up two rain barrels, so I'll be able to water a lot. I plan on making my garden think it's kept raining for two days, just because the first bean plant has started flowering and the cucumbers are beginning to blossom and it strikes me that now would be an opportune time for a bit of rain on there.

But, the two things I forgot:

1) Dave's Gmail Notifier has now gone into Beta ver. 2, and should have no more bugs. He would absolutely adore more testers. Thusfar from his site logs, pretty much nobody has downloaded the thing. Please, please, somebody, anybody, download it and use it and tell him so. He's worked very hard on it and it's very good. It also has a complete website now. http://david.kleinschmidt.name/gmail-notifier

2) For his graduation Dave received, in checks and cash and gift certificates, from all his relatives and a few of mine, almost as much money as I made last month. Yes. So we may take a short vacation somewhere-- I'm definitely thinking we should do a 'weekend' getaway somewhere that isn't Buffalo, because I haven't left Buffalo in something like six months or more. That would be awesome. It's up to Dave, of course. And it doesn't mean we're not still poor, but it means we can pretend we're not for a little while. It just might tide us over until Dave gets a job!!
So, thanks, relatives!!
I'm going to go pay my long-deferred student loans, in the meantime, because at the moment, I can.

Oh, a third item:
3) Snapfish. I signed up for Snapfish because I'm looking for somewhere for my parents to host their photos. (I was a member back when it was an independent company, but I don't remember my old username, more's the pity.) It's not suitable for that purpose, but I did cash in my 20 free prints (which cost me $2 s/h, not that I minded that) and they came out awesome. Oh yes. So very cool. I'd forgotten the sheer joy of having photo prints. If anyone else wants to try it, let me know and I'll send you an invite, because I get 20 free prints for everyone who signs up through my invite. Selfish of me, and it's not like the prints cost much anyway, but still, I know I'll only buy 'em if they're free.

So, a post containing the word awesome in italics twice can't be bad, right? :D
I'm going to go enjoy the cooler and not sunny weather, and plant me some peas to see if they'll grow at midsummer. Why not? I got nothin' to lose but my extra pea seeds.

Oh wait, a fourth item:
4) Dave's updated his web-toys page a bit. It now includes, for the curious, an iCal (probably Entourage-compatible) calendar listing all of Anderson's flavors of the day. How cool is that? Possibly cooler than you could know. (Today is pistachio. Come early and often; it may run out. Pistachio is the BEST. Tomorrow is key lime, though.) So, Bored with life? Suicide's not the answer! Play with some of these web toys instead. Did I mention that you need to mouse over the text at the top of the page? The bouncing text? That's not a gif, that's an extremely complicated javascript. Did I mention. Yes, Dave is the geek for me.

Is it safe to just delete the old version of Gmail notifier and replace with the new?

You can download it and drag it into the Applications folder and it will ask "replace existing version" and if you click "yes" you'll be doing precisely what the developer had in mind.

Are you already using it?? Oh! Well then. Thank you. :D

I'm also on pc.

Concerning a vacation, if Dave is into SciFi, you might consider the huge convention in Toronto the end of August. Featuring Elijah Wood. We're going. (SciFi, gaming, animation, horror, comic books) http://www.hobbystar.com/hobbystar/Conventions.html

About $100 per night hotel, tickets $30 each. Extra for all the Elijah stuff.

Ooh neat!

Well, Dave hates SF in all its forms. At best he finds them amusing to mock; at worst, he has to leave the room. So perhaps that one wouldn't work out. It does sound like a lot of fun though.
