Singapore Sling

dragonlady7Singapore Slings are like my favorite drink, and I think I have now perfected my recipe. Take notes.
2 ounces of gin
1 ounce cherry brandy
2-3 teaspoons vanilla syrup
2 ounces sour mix (varies by brand; some are stronger-tasting, so use less.)
Combine; mix, stir, shake, or roll with ice. ("rolling" is, in bartender speak, simply pouring a drink from one glass to another and back to the first in order to combine the inegredients.)
a tiny splash of grenadine for color and a slight cherry taste; either add with liquors, above, or drizzle into finished drink where it will settle toward the bottom for a mild sunrise effect. (Grenadine is heavy, hence tequila sunrises.)
approx 4 ounces club soda, varying by taste
Awesome drink, both sweet and with a bit of a sour bite. Garnish with lemon, lime, or orange-and-cherry combination (called a "flag"). (Some real tiki places will garnish it with like an entire damn fruit cocktail and perhaps a plastic or paper menagerie. i wish I worked someplace like that.)
A drink I tried last night with less success was a mojito. Am not sure whether I used too little mint or too little sugar or too little lime. All a mojito is, is:
some, like two ounces, rum (silver rum is the usual, but I bet it'd be mad tasty with dark, if a bit weird looking)
a bunch of fresh mint leaves
a couple slices of lime
a teaspoon or two of sugar
some club soda
Take the lime and mint, muddle them all up, cover them in sugar, and then add the rum, and some club soda. I've had some that have been sheer awesomeness in drink form, but mine tend to be a little mouth-twisty although they grow on you. I think I need to plant my spearmint in a bigger pot and let it try to take over the world before I can seriously give this drink another shot.
Umm this Singapore Sling is a good one. Wish we had cherry brandy and vanilla syrup at work. I'd totally sell these things and make a million dollars. Everyone would want one if only they knew.
