ok sorry if this is gross, minor bodily injury, but i was salvaging a plank from the old demolished barn and I grabbed it and got a handful of splinters, and it was just such a pain in the ass to try to dig them out I didn’t try and figured I would once they got too sore. But it’s been three days and all the redness is gone and now there’s just wood embedded under my skin in a bunch of places in my hand and now I’m wondering if I should have dug them out back when they hurt, because they don’t now.

It kind of reminds me of once when I had a weird superficial pain in my foot, like I’d stepped on a piece of gravel, and it kept recurring, and finally i sat one day and kind of dug at a weird spot in the middle of the ball of my foot and eventually dug out a piece of glass that was encased in the skin there, that clearly I’d stepped on and my body had wrapped up. Weird. Weird weird weird.

I don’t know if it’s related but this is something I only notice because I take product photography and sometimes my hand is in the shot. But in various of my nails, usually my thumb, there’s often something that looks like a deeply-embedded thin black line way down under the nail, parallel to the natural grooves of the nail, underneath the nail, and one time I waited and waited and it moved with my nail as it grew, and when it was long enough for me to cut my nail, I was able to pull it out like it was a splinter. But i hadn’t suffered any injuries to the finger that I could remember, and certainly hadn’t had anything embedded under my thumbnail, I’d’ve remembered that. I don’t have any now but I know I did recently. I’d Google this, but I don’t even know what to look up.

Anyway. I’ve had no time for writing in the last week or so, and I’m trying to get my mojo back. Who wants to hear about Poe’s abuela and some space chickens?

Huh. I get those weird black lines in the nailbed myself, sometimes, but have never been able to pull them out - not without pulling out a chunk of the, uh, matrix they're a part of. (That thick layer of ?skin? that lies under the nail and sometimes gets rough and frayed if it's exposed. My nails are very short and prone to tearing, so it often is exposed!)
