Dave was finally summoned for jury duty. I decided maybe I'd like the car, so I dropped him off.
Incidentally, I have become a shitty driver. I realized I haven't really driven in months: Dave always drives, because it's his car. So I'm absolutely terrible now about looking out the windows at all the shiny things as I drive by. Was very difficult to concentrate on traffic. Fortunately avoided incident, although in one case it was by like two inches. Ah well. All's well that ends well. If Dave gets a job and can afford to take over his own car payments, I'll be saving up for my own car quite soon, and so I'd better remember how to be a good driver. Anyhow, I will soon explain what shiny things I was looking at.

The courthouse is on Delaware Ave all the way downtown. Rather than fussing with the expressway, we simply drove like three blocks over and got on Delaware, and took it all the way down. Delaware has a section called the S-curves, which take it neatly between two sections of a gorgeous Frederick Law Olmstead park. (The Japanese water gardens are on one side, and a golf course landscaped with 150-year-old oaks and entire hillsides of daffodils on the other.) Went all the way downtown, past the lovely Art Deco City Hall, and dropped Dave off.
Then I went one block over, and took Franklin St. back up. Franklin St. is partially one-way, and isn't busy. It is lined with mansions. Mansions from Buffalo's glory days, about 100 years ago. Some earlier. Late Victorian masterpieces, in wood or stone or brick, with turrets, with tasteful ornamentation, with ancient landscaping, with beautifully-maintained woodwork, with lovingly-restored leaded glass, with cast-iron balconies. This is the most beautiful part of Buffalo. I took Franklin until it ended, at the famous Forest Lawn cemetery, and then went over to Delaware again. Just after the S-curves I turned right on Nottingham Terrace, and on one side was the golf course end of the park, and on the other were the mansions where Buffalo's Old Money lives. There is one that, no lie, looks like part of Emma (my high school)'s campus, only it's... a private residence. They just built a 4 or 6-car garage that matches it, by the way.

So I am full to the brim of shiny architecture. Dave just IMd me from the courthouse to tell me their wifi Inter-Nets was wicked slow, but then he said "oop" and signed off suddenly, so I guess he's actually doing something today. I just have to say, he dressed in work pants and a polo shirt, and packed up my laptop bag (purchased, btw, in Greece when I was 15 and had never seen a laptop computer, but it's absolutely perfect for a 15" laptop), and he looked so cute and professional and I just wanted to snog him. I hope he gets a job soon. And we get to do more snogging.

And become zillionaires so we can buy one of those shiny houses. Holy mother of mercy, those things are gorgeous.
