Happy May 17th!
May. 17th, 2005 07:53 amWhat's May 17th?
It's like July 4th or May 5th (think Mexico) only it's on a different day and in Norway, and they have different traditions.

In other news, am slowly preparing myself to go to work. Bleh. I hate opening Torture Bar, especially on Tuesdays when nothing happens.
Dave doesn't have to go anywhere today, so I'm hoping he gets a lot of work done so he's not flipping out like a high-strung ninja tonight when I come home. Because tonight I want to do some vegetable gardening with him, and house-disaster-reconaissance.
I thought I had tomorrow off, but I don't, so somehow the house is going to have to get cleaned before Sunday, and I thought I was going to do it tomorrow, but I'm not. @_@
But. Sunday...Mostly sunny. Highs around 70. So we can fry that turkey without getting rained on, and eat it outside where there's more room than inside. Yay! Maybe nobody will notice that our house is a pigsty.
I need more smut in my life. I asked Dave if we could be kinkier and he demanded I put my proposals into PowerPoint. I protested I didn't know how to use PowerPoint, and he proceeded to verbally construct a How To Use PowerPoint flowchart.
1: Do you have Powerpoint? If yes, go to step two. If no, buy it, and then go to step 2.
2: Double-click PowerPoint.
3: You've used PowerPoint!
Sigh.

May 17 is the Norwegian national holiday. It's the celebration of the Norwegian constitution of 1814 when the country was released from under Danish rule. Yay! (Of course - shortly after and until 1905 Norway was under Swedish rule...) This year is also the country's hundredth anniversary. Double yay!
May 16 is a big day for all the kids who 'graduate' from 'high school'. May 17 marks the end of their celebration of their adultery (*snicker* adulthood?). So they stay up most of the night and get very very drunk. And today they participate in the big parades in all the cities, looking and feeling their very best...
A very basic introduction to the Norwegian national holiday. I'll give you more in-depth-description some time. There's a lot more to it, really...
But happy May 17 to everybody! :]
