May. 15th, 2005 04:54 pmWhee! Plants!
We went to the garden store again. I keep going there and spending money. But.
Now I have marigolds!
And snapdragons!
I am excited.
And we got some peppers, and some lemon thyme at
jonquil's suggestion, and some basil to, er, help the basil I planted which has almost died and yet has green bits left.
We also bought two strawberry plants.
I know, I know, I know. But. Why not?
We didn't get hot peppers, because they weren't for sale yet. (Tuesday, said the store owner.)
I am considering getting a hollyhock or something to plant by the telphone pole in the back yard corner. There's a lilac bush, but it's under two feet tall and I just planted it. My mom has grown hollyhocks before, and I know they get quite tall and have flowers... and are biennials, so there'd be something there for two years while the lilac comes in...
I dunno though. Am still considering. Have until Tuesday to decide.
Was also considering buying some rosemary or spearmint, but decided against them.
Discovered that the weeds in the garden are buttercups. I love buttercups. I pulled them up, but kept some of the flower stems and they're in a bud vase. I am so not sophisticated in any way, but I think they're cute.
Later I'm going to dig up the stupid hostas in the back, which are returning despite my efforts to kill them, and then we'll have snapdragons and marigolds along the back of the sunporch. The snapdragons will be tall enough to see through the windows when you're sitting in there. I don't think they're fragrant, though. But I love snapdragons; I used to buy them at the little grocery-markets in NYC. ("You never bought me flowers," Dave said when I remembered this. "No," I answered, "I did. You never bought me flowers." "Oh right," he said.) Maybe I'll actually eventually have enough flowers in my yard to make a bouquet. Dare I think it?
