wasting away to practically nothing

dragonlady7I so totally am. I was hungry when I got to work so I ate at 11:30, and I'm absolutely starving now, and the damn spaghetti cannot cook fast enough for me. If this thinning process goes on indefinitely I shall become a wraith.
I kid; one evening of being hungry is not going to magically skinnify me. But I am so so very hungry.
Around 2 pm one of the managers wandered past, and I asked who was coming in to close the bar. (I was the cocktail waitress, scheduled to leave at 7.) The manager looked at the schedule, and read off the name, and said, "Huh, it's crossed off. I wonder why."
"Um," I said, "she's in Florida and has been trying for weeks to find someone who could take over the shift they randomly scheduled her for in the middle of her vacation."
"Ohhh." Blank look. Look shifts to one of cunning. "What time are you here until?"
Sigh. "Seven."
Cunning intensifies. "Can you stay?"
Sigh. "It'll be overtime, but yes. Be it on your head."
Fortunately the storms down the east coast eased and there were no significant flight delays, so I got out at 8. I had forgotten my phone, however. I called Dave at 6:30 and said I'd probably be done at 8, but I'd call him to let him know when to come get me. I called at 8 and he wasn't there. I couldn't remember his cellphone number. I freaked out: how on earth could I get in touch with him if I couldn't call him except at the house phone where he wasn't?
I'd just decided to look his mom up in the phonebook and call her and ask her for his cellphone number when I thought to check outside, and he was there. Durrr.
So I'm an idiot, and made a bunch of money today, and am deeply, deeply weary, and am so happy that I have tomorrow off, and also happy that it rained because the lawn needed it.
Update: Ate dinner, am still fuckin' hungry. Fuck being skinny: I'm going to the Lake Effect Diner on Main St. for a goddamn milkshake.
