better-ish
Apr. 25th, 2005 10:41 pmDave, in a stroke of luck, was out just in time to pick me up on his way home from school so I didn't have to take the bus. It was a complete coincidence of timing. I almost took the bus anyway, but when the bus was slightly late and he turned out to be slightly early, I decided to have him swing by (it's not really out of his way at all) and pick me up anyway. The deciding factor was that he'd sounded cheerful on the phone.
His mood really does affect me inordinately. I hadn't realized that. But I've always been something of a mood sponge, which might be why I'm so disturbingly introverted most of the time. Today at work I was sarcastic while Judy, ever sarcastic, was there, only to transform into bubbly and flirty when bubbly-flirty Allison came in at 4. And I realized, I do that all the time.
I'd stolen food from work for Dave and he was extremely pleased to eat it. I had leftover fajita stuff for dinner, but he ate the chicken caesar salad I'd brought home, and hummed with pleasure the entire time, because he hadn't had one in forever and it was good. He then enumerated the various ways in which it was good. The cheese, for one; grated parmesan cheese is tasty. And the croutons, which were separately packed so as not to become soggy: the croutons were good. And the pepper, the way the pepper and cheese blended with the dressing to be tasty. Yes. He enjoyed them all, thoroughly. And was happy to have eaten them.
It was quite sweet, really. I am horribly fond of the boy.
Other mood-improvers:
I found the missing $150 deposit envelope among the stack of Bills To Be Paid ASAP. How lucky is that? Oof, I am going to be less dumb about leaving the undeposited deposit envelopes lying around.
It was dead much of today, but I had a late afternoon rush, and in the end I made (by my calculations) a little under 16% of my total sales in tips. I had some very generous late-stayers, and that really made the evening much more pleasant, as I was on overtime by then and there's a reason 8 hours is a standard shift because at eight hours and about ten minutes my body started to hurt all over.
The daffodils have recovered from the snow and are shiny again.
I suppose that's all, really. Except that I had not one but two big glasses of milk with dinner and they tasted really good. So what if I get fat! At least I won't have osteoporosis.
Also, I was reflecting on my childhood and thinking what a mess my house was when I was a kid. So whatever; if it's a pigsty in here I'm not really far from my roots. At least the stove top is clean.

For myself, I eat all the fat I want. Lots of eggs, butter, cheese. Fried foods. Fried potatoes of one form or another nearly every day. I have unbelievably low cholesterol. Something to do with all the frying being done in olive oil.
I no longer believe anything that 'they' tell me about nutrition. 'They' just don't know anything at all. Of course, a lot is determined by just who's paying them the big bucks this year, too. Nobody ever demonises sugar for instance. Of course not. Sugar has the second-largest lobby. Right next to tobacco.

Date: 2005-04-26 03:08 pm (UTC)Sugar's a complicated subject, given that there are many different kinds, and sugar is a necessary part of a complete diet.
The real trick, if you actually care, is to get your nutrition information from the sports world. Exercise physiologists and nutritionists who are trying to maximize athletic performance have no care for political concerns. (Course, they have no care for taste, either...which is why I can't ever stick to any sort of rigorous diet. Thank god for insane metabolism!)

I would love to know HOW to get nutrition information from the sports world. I am fully aware that they are the ones who 'know'.
