mmmmm chickenfat
Apr. 21st, 2005 10:43 pmDave picked me up from work. The cash office went through a particularly irritatingly bad patch that left me sitting there an hour waiting to cash out. Dave saw me come out the door and turned and left so I had to follow him to his car at a trot. He then proceeded to drive home at terrifying speeds, and also refused to speak to me the entire way. This upset me. He explained that dinner was in the oven and was supposed to have come out half an hour before we'd get home. I suggested he call his mom and have her zip over and turn off the oven, but he wouldn't.
So we got home and ... dinner was fine.
He'd roasted a chicken.
It was really, really, really good.
I insisted on making gravy. I love gravy. I've never made gravy before, but I remembered watching my mom do it, and so it came out absolutely perfect. (He'd seasoned-salted the chicken skin, so the gravy didn't need seasoning, to be fair.)
And it was just so tasty and so perfectly what I didn't even know I wanted, so all is well in this house. And my belly is happily full of roasted chicken.
Dave's got a chem lab all day tomorrow, so i gots to go to bed so I can wake up and make him a lunch tomorrow morning. I am too damn tired from work today to do it tonight.
Did take a minute to add up my tip totals for this week: Grim. This business is... unpredictable. And having a day off put a dent in it. I regret taking Tuesday, for that, but can't regret it seeing how tired I am now and how tired I was then.
I have tomorrow and the day after off, and I fully intend to actually be productive.
(I am having a thought, about our unfinished second storey and perhaps cleverly making it into a studio. But let's not speak this thought out loud, not out of parentheses. I am simply having the thought, for now.)
