Apr. 10th, 2005 08:45 pmYes, I know, a post that's not all about flowers.
In my earlier post about glassline there were several errors.
1) Under The Eve is not broken up. Geoff hasn't left yet. He's leaving in September. They're just not playing out much because, well, Geoff's leaving in September. But they're not breaking up.
2) glassline is the other band's name, and they do have a website. They are a very new band: indeed, the venue was booked before the band had even practiced. Not that you could tell by listening to them. I think they've all been in several other bands before. Certainly Scott and Corey have been working together for a while.
3) Under The Eve was being recorded the night I went to see them. I present to you, straight from the bassist's computer via IM, the bootleg of the Nintendo Medley. (Right-click and save to disk.) This is a large file, but it is worth listening to. It was intended as a tribute to Old-School Nintendo. I have never been a gamer, but even I have these songs in my brain as a part of me. They're excellent adaptations; there's some wah-pedal mastery in the Mario Brothers stuff, and the lead guitar is some awesome shit. The recording quality is pretty good, and the people talking in the beginning do shut up fairly soon. But there are a few skips. Still and all, there are bits that totally rule. It's fourteen minutes of metalized nostalgia, extremely well-played. And they bring it back to Legend of Zelda again in the end.
I also got the bootleg recording of their 80s (& 90s) TV Show Medley but I don't have enough space on my webserver at the moment to put it up. (To be honest I only recognized the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and the Home Improvement Theme. Me, not a TV buff.)
