I planted the dudes all over. I didn't really think about it, but if I put them six to eight inches apart, and I brought home forty-eight of them, and... I have a small yard. Yes, planning is so my forte, why do you ask?

But now there are pansies by the door, pansies by the porch, pansies in a pot, pansies under the bushes, pansies all along the side of the house. They're lovely little things, and their faces look up at me no matter where I go as long as I'm on the shady side of my house. So all is well.

Dave's grillin' tonight, lemon-and-garlic-marinated chicken. We're drinking Jack & coke. I'm trying to remember how to make a Lynchburg Lemonade. (Jack, sour mix, and... ?) And I'm going to add pictures of the little dudes to the spring gallery.

I know, I'm wittering on boringly about this and am not saying anything actually worth saying, but I'm pretty psyched about the whole yard and plants thing.

I love their faces, so bright and cheerful! *eyes the shadier spots* Hmm.... Your crocuses are soooo beautiful. Do they smell good too? Can never remember if it's those or jonquil that smells so wondermous.

Spring is just fun! Everything is bright and blooming and fresh. :)

Spring is actually making me excited to live here again. Over the winter I was getting tired of this claustrophobic little boring house, but now that there's a yard again I'm excited to go play in it, and I'm excited about the rest of the house as well again. So maybe this time I'll finish moving in...

The crocuses are lovely. Perhaps next year I'll get some yellow or white ones. These were all purple.
Well. After May sometime I'll know whether we're staying here a while or not. We'll be here at least through the summer, I expect, so I'll have fun with the annuals... but maybe by the end of the summer we'll know more. If we are staying, then me and my wild plans are going to get fulfilled. (So far the wildest part is me speculating that we need a tree. But I still don't know what kind.)

I don't think the crocuses smell like anything, but my sense of smell isn't what it used to be. (It still hasn't recovered from that awful cold I had.) I hope it's back by the time the lilacs bloom. Though I don't know that my tiny lilacs will have any flowers this year...

Yes, the little white flower is a snowdrop.

I wish I were planting in my yard, but that isn't happening this year.

Yay! I knew what a snowdrop was! I'm so clever.
There are zillions of little snowdrop bulbs all over my flowerbeds.

Ohh, yes, I don't imagine you'll be recovered enough to do any planting this year. :( One of the catalogs I got through Burpee was offering raspberry bushes and I thought of your yard. We don't have the space for them. (Dave really wanted some.)

I have an extra pansy-pot. (I ran out of shady flowerbed before I ran out of pansies, so I stuck 'em in a couple of plastic pots and put them in the shady spot by the kitchen stoop.) Do you want it? It's not as good as a garden but it's easier to take care of...

While I'm tempted to take you up on that, I don't know how I'd get it from you. Thank you for considering me.

You don't really have to plant the pansies that far apart. You can stick it in with some others.

Aww. That's ok. I don't live far away, anyhow.

Oh, yes, Dave was saying his mom usually plants pansies and now I recall seeing them, and she plants them quite close together. (I'd've thought her backyard was too sunny, but if I remember, they bloomed through the whole summer for her last year, while we were there.) But I wanted to give the little beauties some space. Especially as I was planting them in beds that already have other flowers in them, and in most cases I don't actually know what's under that dirt. (I stuck some random bulbs I dug up into a patch of soil and they're coming up and I think they're hyacinths but I don't know.... There are odd bits of green everywhere and it's a bit of a mess. I think I even have a lily coming up somewhere.)
