Whoa.
Woke up with both bad chest and sinus congestion and am producing olive-green goo in mass quantities.
Bummer, man.
I've just had the rather wicked thought that I could, perhaps, call in sick today.
It being the week-i-versary of my having been yanked off the floor to go back in the club because someone else called in sick.
I dunno, what do you think?
I have an hour or two to decide before I really ought to call in or not.
This goo, I mean-- it's olive green. Gross. And it hurts. Gross.
But i don't have to do any work. I'll just be in the Club.
But I won't make any money. I'll just be in the Club. (Last week? $7 in 8.5 hours.)
*hack* Ugh. Chartreuse, this time.
And if i call in today will they believe I'm well in time to work tomorrow? Tomorrow I could actually make money. I can't take off tomorrow.
And if I call in will they think I'm just trying to get revenge on the girl who called in last week? But I don't know who they'll call to come in. And dude, it's my chest. I'll drag myself in tomorrow, but I bet I'll still be able to produce green goo for the suspicious.
And then I'd have a third day off in a row and Dave and I could go grocery shopping.
*ponders*

Date: 2005-03-11 04:06 pm (UTC)B) You are contagious and will pass this illness on to everybody who works there, thus hurting the company's efficiency and making everyone miserable.
C) If everyone stayed home when they were really truly ill instead of working anyway or saving their sick days for days they aren't sick, a lot less people would get sick because nobody would be passing the germs around.
D) If you can't afford antibiotics, which YOU COULD GET AT ANY FREE CLINIC, you definitely can't afford to get even sicker, if that's a word. So stay home, get lots of rest and fluids and try to help your body recover even though we invented antibiotics for a REASON, and that reason was that people GET WELL USING THEM and often are sick for weeks or months (and in extreme cases, died, but I don't think that's at issue here).

Date: 2005-03-11 04:15 pm (UTC)In fact, there are no anti-viral drugs. So getting medical help wouldn't actually be helpful.
I'm in the Club today and will see no co-workers. The only people at risk of contagion will be my four customers. As I handle glasses by the base, not the rim, the germs on my hands will not be in contact with their mouths.
The only remaining risk is via the airborne virus particles when i cough.
If I took off every time I had a cold I wouldn't be able to go to work very often. I get colds from customers who don't take sick-days but travel anyway.

Date: 2005-03-14 02:23 am (UTC)Actually... (slaps on her "I used to be a nurse-type thingie" hat)
The green goo means that your body has already begun fighting off the infection (in this case, the virus that caused the cold) and the green is actually dead white blood cells and such, the inevitable by-products of those little internal battles between good and evil. :-)
In other words, your body is already doing everything it can to fight this. All you can do is rest and eat nourishing foods that make you feel good. Also, some steam - a hot shower, or even just a bowl of boiling water with a towel over your head - can help break up some of the congestion and get your sinuses going again.
*takes off the funny nursie hat*
Hope you feel better soon!
