non-suicide Tuesdays: Novelty.
Feb. 15th, 2005 08:42 pmwhat's it mean that after having been without computer for over twelve hours, I will check my lj friendslist entirely through to the last post I read before I even load my e-mail program?
Well, it means y'all's lives are more interesting than mine, is what it means.
Oop, I do have an email: from Katy, no less. (Well. She sends them to Mom, who forwards them to everyone.)

Hey, family -
I just got back from an adventure to the airport today - the only adventure part was that I got to ride in a Blackhawk there and back. It was a lot of fun to see Baghdad that way - I guess I knew it was a big bustling city, but it's much different to see it from the air.
Anyway, I'm on my way to bed, but I just wanted to let you know that we got our first batch of mail today and I came in second in the whole battalion for quantity of mail - 11 letters!!! I'm so impressed. Adam's sad, though, because he hasn't gotten anything yet. (You can send his mail to my address if you want - we're at the same place. I told him I'd let him read all of them, though, so hopefully that will make him feel better.) And Grandma's valentine got here just one day late! I have one you sent on the 9th. Very quick!
I'm on my way to bed now - I'll write more tomorrow, hopefully. I have my own computer set up with internet now. I love you all. Night!

This is my first Tuesday since November that hasn't been a Suicide Tuesday. It's kind of... weird.
Work was sort of awesome and sort of sucky today. The other woman who works with me didn't come in today-- she was sick, and the manager doing scheduling never got the message, so I simply went unrelieved all day. So she didn't come at 11, and the next girl, at 2, went to the other bar, never getting the message to come help me.
Which meant a) time flew, b) I was rushed off my feet and never got a break (I had to pee for three and a half hours before I had a chance), and c) I made way more money than I'd any right to expect. So. That was good. I'm exhausted, but it was good.
Also, i stayed a bit late to help the incoming bartender, who should have replaced me, with the dinner rush. Which means I made yet more money. And yet more hours. But it meant I was slightly late to dinner at Dave's Aunt Ruta's house. She gave us excellent food and a ton of advice on what to plant in our garden (Dave has a hankering, I tell you, a hankering for gardening, which pleases me. We may get ambitious this spring, should his course load permit. I will discuss gardening in another post).
A hopeful point is that [Manager Who Does Scheduling] came by and mentioned, sounding pleased, that he'd gotten my note about being down to the one job and willing to take more hours and any schedule he pleases. He said he'd be working up a schedule tonight or tomorrow. So I am hopeful that a) given more hours, and b) given that it's moving into Spring Break season and one can make twice as much now as before in the same amount of time, I might (brace yourselves) might not have to get another second job. I'm thinkin' about it. Whoa, I know. Deep thought. Holy cow. Breathe. It'll be all right. Whoo. *fans self*
So. Yeah, a better Tuesday than many. I'd ruther be here feelin' comfy than standing dejectedly at Local Bar not making any money, to be perfectly honest. even if it means I don't get days off. *grumble*

Date: 2005-02-16 01:43 pm (UTC)I wouldn't make that kind of money again. There were supposed to be 2 people there.
But I do feel like I was tested, on some level, and managed to hold my own. I feel like I'm well-considered in their eyes. I hope, at least, that I've made up for the Dark-Haired Bartender incident. The US Air ladies mentioned that they tell [Manager Who Does Scheduling] every day how great I am, how good my attitude is, how good I am with the customers, so maybe he's realized that lumping me together with the actual dark-haired bartender is a mistake?
I dunno. I'm feeling overoptimistic because I have money in my hand, which is one of the pitfalls of the industry. But I tell you what, I think I'm gonna pay my student loan bill, cuz I crazy like that.
