Me: (sits at bed typing previous post. Hovers cursor over 'submit', pauses, goes back to reread something.)
Phone: *rings*
Dave: *gets phone* Hello? Sure, um, hang on a second.
Me: *gets out of bed, takes phone* Hello?
Phone: Hi, this is [bar manager] from Local Bar?
Me: Hi. What's up?
[manager]: Well, see, when we hired you, [Owner] and I got our wires crossed, and he promised you the job the same time I promised the job to someone else. So we did hire her, but not for as many hours as she wanted.
Me: (thinks: Is this why you told me Tues and Thurs and I've never worked a Thurs?) Oh.
[manager]: Now the other girl, see, she wants to quit to get a job with more hours, and we don't really want to lose her, and she has more experience than you.
Me: I see.
[manager]: So we really want to give her your shift. It's not that you've done anything wrong, and we'd love to keep you on our list to call if we need somebody-- you've done a great job-- but we need to give your shift to someone else.
Me: *shrugs* OK, sure.
So I'm down to one job again, and need to remember to drop off the keys to Local Bar when I go in today. I should probably pick up my last paycheck too, huh?
Sigh.
I guess I'll go on Monday to the new place that opened just down the street that's hiring for all positions, and ask them if they need a junior bartender for the shit shifts. I mean, I know the owner there's a cokehead, but I gotta pay our bills somehow.
Well, first I'll ask the airport for more hours. We'll see if that works. Pfeh. I can't afford to just have one job.
But it's not like I made much money at Local Bar. $75 a week before taxes, including all tips. It'll hurt to lose that, but maybe I can find something better...
Pain in my ass.

Date: 2005-02-11 04:29 pm (UTC)But it's a pain in the ass because my budget was just about to balance in another two weeks if I'd kept my 45 hours just as they were, and now I'm $75 short a week. So I have to start hunting, again, and the likelihood of me finding just the right number of hours is mindnumbingly low. Bastards!
Oh well. At least I still have the job where I make most of the money. (Crosses fingers: they have no reason to fire me... right???)

I hope you get something soon! My legs are crossed for ya!
