Hello, family!!
A long, cold journey, but we arrived today around 8 am in Bagdhad. Colder than I remember - since I never experienced winter here - and because with the armor on the HMMWVs, most don't have windows, so the cold air just whips on in. Also because we had to sleep in our vehicles for two nights - which turned out fine - we covered our windows with our ponchos and blasted the heat for a while, so it was pretty warm. Just uncomfortable. And the only adventures we had were broken down vehicles and keeping my driver awake - it's kind of a swervy ride anyway, between going around potholes and avoiding garbage - so it was a challenge to tell when he was swerving and avoiding something and when he was about to go off the road. But, we made it in one piece. Adam had my room all ready - bed made with sheets and blankets, a little table and shelves - very nice. It's about 6 x 12 - two people could fit comfortably, but I just have me in there. Very nice.
Anyway, I'm about to go to bed - no sleep for the past two nights really did me in. My predecessor seems very nice, and SSG Holt has all sorts of good info for me, so I'll start the process of working tomorrow. I get a break for now! I love you all. Take care! Talk to you soon.
Love,
Katy
