and oh yes, more from Kuwait
Feb. 4th, 2005 11:58 pmKaty emailed a quick note to say that she has a mailing address now. She sent it to me and it's just this incomprehensible string of letters and dashes, which I think is mostly just the abbreviations for the unit she's part of. (I recognize 3ID at least!) Army-Speak is so utterly incomprehensible...
Last time Kate was over there, Mom had all her students write her letters and things. Katy was really good at replying to them. She did mention that if the Army ever lets her out, she might consider a career as a teacher. She's good at handling people.
She also said that she's tired, and sick from living with so many people-- on her second cold.
Dad wrote back to say that one of his compatriots (his Division is in Iraq now and they left Dad home because he's too old, which Dad thinks is bullshit) recently e-mailed from Iraq to say that the billets up in Iraq were pretty nice, and he figured they were nicer in Iraq than Kuwait so that people would want to go forward. The 42 ID Intel guys said they got flown into Iraq on Chinook helicopters-- which aren't much by way of windows, but they're better than C-130s.
I think it's probably better that she fly because while planes and helicopters crash sometimes, at least they don't run over roadside bombs quite so often as trucks do. But, then, I'm just a couch-potato worry-wart.

Date: 2005-02-05 02:18 pm (UTC)Going over Dad's notes from Vietnam, some of the acronyms and slang words were just funny, and I couldn't not laugh. I mean... some of it sounded like it was right out of a bad movie, and some of it was just comical.
But most... just inscrutable.
