dragonlady7I've finished ch. 6 (needs some cutting and pasting bits in, but is done) and have written large swathes of ch. 7, but am not feeling terribly good about them.
They're not flowing well, and...
Well...
I'm sort of in a slump as far as this project goes. It's not holding my enthusiasm, not inspiring my faith. I hope it's a mid-project slump and soon I'll get excited about it again. But I don't really know yet.
The book is kind of... banal. The whole thing. It's just... not that interesting. The drama's not very high, it's not like you can't figure out what's going to happen. The characters aren't terribly well-drawn. And the setting? Really vague. I haven't done *quite* enough research.
So they're sort of not-detailed line drawings wandering around in a vaguely sketched, hazy background.
Muh. And Ch. 6 was supposed to be the exciting bits. I was really looking forward to rewriting it.
I guess rewriting has made some of the logic flaws come out. The characters are starting to realize that they're not really... quite... smart. Some of the things I need them to do for the plot to hold together kind of demand that they, well, lack common sense.
I know, I know, this isn't meant to be a masterwork, it's meant to get DONE. But it's really hard to be compelled by it at this point. Little things are starting to get on my nerves, like choreography--- things that are actually really hard to write. Like, somehow, I have to get character A to point B, then have Character B arrive at point B after char. A, but before Group C, which B was behind earlier. So somehow, he has to get past them to get to point B although he doesn't know in advance where Point B is.

Yeah, that's sort of poor plotting on my part but I don't know how to fix it so I'm just going to make him suddenly an expert woodsman. Why not! I'll go back and edit that into the earlier chapters later!
... yyyeah.
Bah. I see now why so few people finish novels. Well... it doesn't matter, does it? The point is to finish a novel.
But publishing it? It's probably not formulaic enough to get by on that, not well-written enough to get by on that. Bah. Bah, I say yet again! And Bah once more! I shall perservere! Dogged persistence will get me by! Somehow!
