OK, I'm going to ask here before I make an ass of myself and ask in the Help section.

How do you set up LJ's "Pictures" feature?

Do you have to be invited to take part in the beta, or something?

I am a paid user but I don't think I was yet when the pics feature was announced. (I have been on and off for like two years, but I miss out on these things a lot.)

I have a link under "manage" to "pictures", and I click it and it tries to go to a URL that sounds like it would be a picture gallery for me.

But I click that link and it tries for 60 seconds and fails to load any data from that location.

I know some of you have used livejournal's picture galleries.
The topic does not appear in the FAQs of the site's Help, and to be honest I've never been that proficient at help sections even though I used to write them, and so I am at a loss as to where else to look for more info.
I remember seeing an announcement about it somewhere but I couldn't tell you where.

Does anyone have any idea what I ought to do, or should I go make an ass of myself asking in the Help section?

I think the "pictures" site is just down today - I've tried to access it a couple times with no luck, and the last picture I posted in my journal is showing as broken right now.
