Ok, somehow I misread the schedule, and I had tonight off. Dammit!
They swear to God they hadn't changed it.
I swear to God I was on the schedule for tonight.
But all the positions were filled.
Jeez, now I'm crazy...
That sucks.

On a brighter note, I had some good, brief conversations while at work, including one wherein I secured a job application for Dave and confirmed that they're hiring cooks. He had said he didn't want to work for the airport, but... at this point, why bother getting an office job he'll have to quit? Why not get a job someplace with more flexible hours so he could stay on a couple days a week while at school? Not a lot, mind you; he's going to have a tough semester. But some wouldn't be bad at all. . . And he has a little bit of an in there, and knows what the job would entail. So...

So, it looks like I'm back down just under 40 hours a week again. Buh. Oh well. We went out for ice cream on the way home, to console ourselves for all the annoying driving around and all that.
I'm thinking of asking Local Bar if they have any time slots available for waitresses. I sure wouldn't mind working as a waitress there sometimes... Sue the waitress gives me 10% of her tips at the end of every shift we work together, because I make all her drinks and wash all the glasses, and from that I can judge that she consistently makes about 10-20% more than me per shift. More running around and dealing with the crap of the restaurant business, but really, I do like it at Curry's and if I can pick up a couple more hours a week there I'd be happy.

I just... y'know... I consistently make almost enough money, no matter what job I'm working at. No matter what. I could be making $100k a year and I'm sure it would still almost be enough. Pfeh. Forget money. I'm gonna go live in the woods in a commune. Who's with me?
(As an aside, I was invited in about '97 to come join a commune in the Outer Hebrides, raising llamas. The inviter even owned a house out there, though it was half in ruins and needed work. But yeah, we were going to telecommute, and raise llamas. In Scotland. And, I'm serious.)

I'm in! So's Trevor, if the roof doesn't leak. Ours does, right now. It's enough tomake anybody want to go live in the woods, and we did that back when we had a perfectly good house to live in.
