happy quarter century, dave

dragonlady7So it's Dave's 25th birthday today.
He's just staggered sleepily out of his room, sat down in the papasan, and did one of those full-face yawns like babies do where their whole face disappears behind their mouth.
I was going to go a little earlier and wake him with enthusiastic and loving kisses and the like, but I have known him long enough now to know that simply because I like such things, doesn't mean he does. So I let him sleep.
Last night Corey came over and we watched Army of Darkness, which really is a brilliant movie and has almost nothing to do with the two prequels except for the themes of horror and annoyance being so closely linked. (In #1 he kills one of the zombies just because she won't stop fucking giggling. And we all applauded.)
Corey and I loudly and enthusiastically heckled the movie. And discovered that Peter Jackson is indubitably a huge fan.
"Who's with me?" Ash shouts, raising his boomstick and standing on the wall.
A man raises a torch. "You have my steel!" he says, irrelevantly.
"And my bow!" another shouts, actually gesturing with an actual bow (go figure!).
Gimli steps forward. "And my axe!"
Ash teaches the "primitives" to make gunpowder. The wise man seizes a bag of it and brings it next to a candle to see it better.
"Grima!" I shriek. "Put that down!"
Later, there was some chanting of "Grond! Grond!" and some references to the movieverse ride of the Rohirrim ("But it's not dawn on the third day!" "Whatever, Henry's here and stuff!" and the beardy guy comes galloping down the steep hill and suavely cuts off the head of an Orc-- er, skeleton-- as he rides by).
Are all films just homages to other ones? Yeesh.
Maybe on Monday we'll watch the RotK EE DVD. I just like the fact that it has so many letters in the acronym.
Anyhow. Yeah. I'm working in the club today, which means no tips, which means I don't really know how I'm going to manage to take Dave out to dinner tonight, since I just spent all my cash on food yesterday, and just wrote a check for the entire contents of my checking account to pay a bill, and my credit card is still maxed. Hm.
I suppose one must think of something, and that 'one' is me and that 'something' is... um....
um...
....
um...
