my last two presents
Dec. 26th, 2004 09:28 pmSomehow in all the shuffle two presents for me got set aside and then never came out to be unwrapped. So Dave retrieved them from his mother's spare bedroom for me, and I opened them tonight.
One was from Mom and Dad. Yet more moisturizer! I have like fifteen different kinds of moisturizer now, and am bursting with eagerness to use each one, but am not sure in which order I should use them... Today I used all Blackberry-Vanilla stuff from Bath & Body Works, which was nice. Tomorrow I may be all Mangoed instead. And somewhere in between I will Burt's Bees myself. But I wish something, anything worked on the weird hives or eczema on my neck, which is visible in all my work shirts and looks nasty and leprous. It comes and goes, and it's not a reaction to any particular shirt or necklace or anything-- it's just been appearing on and off ever since I started work, and it was f'rociously itchy last night. Igh. So, I shall apply my plethora of goos (including tea tree oil, a stocking stuffer from my mother-- Will try it!) and hope for the best.
The second was Dave's big present to me.
It was an empty box.
Upon reflection (Dave giggling meanwhile), I determined that it was an empty box for a CD/DVD-ROM-Write drive.
"Does the fact that it's empty mean it's in my computer?" I asked, astonished.
"Yeah," Dave said. "I put it in there a couple weeks ago."
A couple weeks now I've had a working CD/DVD drive in my computer and I never noticed.
Well?
He actually had to disassemble the Luxo Jr. iMac (think the one that dances in the old ad, round base and flat screen)-- NOT EASY. He also had to go at the drive itself with the Dremel my mom got him, to make it fit into the tiny customized space in the iMac. But, it fits, and it works, and all is well. So I was going to watch a DVD tonight, but don't really have one... The Netflix movies we have are all ones we have to watch with other people (except the Kurosawa one I don't have the strength to watch right now), and I only own two DVDs and don't want to watch either one...
But anyway. Is not my boy the cleverest monkey? And now I remember a couple of weeks ago, him saying "Oh, I was futzing with the network today and I had to restart your computer, and there was something unsaved so I saved it, OK?" and me thinking, "huh, the network doesn't usually take my computer down with it"-- and I also remember thinking, "Huh, that gift he wrapped didn't actually have anything Dremelled in it, but I kept hearing the Dremel, and he was telling my dad about wearing goggles to cut plastic because the shards flew, but there was nothing plastic in that gift", but i'd never put two and two together and come up with anything.
So, my boy is the cleverest monkey.
On that note, today I wrote a whole long post at work (was in the Club, made five whole dollars in tips, go me!) about Christmas and the Kringle competition, and I shall post it along with photos a bit later when I am a little more in the spirit for it. Got some good photos. With my NEW 256 MB MEMORY CARD, thanks very much to my mom and dad. Now I can take like a hundred pictures! Instead of like four! My life is awesome.
Yeah, I got some good loot for Xmas. I'm glad I have tomorrow off, so I can sort through it and figure out what the heck it all is. I really haven't had time yet to absorb my newfound wealth in stuff. Or, for that matter, brew a pot of tea in my teapot. I have a teapot!
