ranting about undies-- yay!

So this is me wearing my Xmas presents from Dave, as underlayers.I don't know if you can see them, but those stockings have seams up the backs and a traditional Cuban heel. Dave took half a dozen pictures of me in the stuff he bought me, and none of them came out well at all. (I kind of wanted to put up a picture of the garment itself but ugh, me in my skivvies, even if they are decidedly unbrief skivvies-- not pretty no matter how you crop. Go to the website and see the catalog photos instead.)
I have to say, though, I found the garterbelt-cum-structural-undergarment to be really comfortable and wore it all day from the time I put it on this morning until just now. So I wore it under pyjamas (for a laugh), work clothes, jeans, and the clothes in the photo. I wore it shopping, driving, giftwrapping, and to an amazing dinner at a swanky restaurant (Buffalonians: Left Bank is not French, and we don't know what it is, but it is simply wonderful food-- down on Rhode Island ave across the street from the Essex St. Pub and the firehouse).
It doesn't really make me look thinner, but it takes all my curves and smooths them out. It squeezes all the pudge that is my belly out and makes it into this magical hourglass that tapers to a tiny waist before flaring smoothly out into hips. It makes my ass look more pert because it removes the love handles and sort of squishes them downward into a more harmonious setting with my butt, which is usually a fairly unexceptional part of me. And man, it takes the strain of holding up my boobs off my back to an extent. My back was killing me this morning, to the point that I got out of bed and took a bath because I couldn't sleep for the pain. But I put that on and it transferred the strain to other points, I guess.
The stockings are novel because they're pure nylon, which means they don't stretch. They're softer, thinner, sheerer, and smoother to touch than regular nylon/lycra pantyhose. They don't stretch at all; if they're not big enough, they just go on shorter. The only downside I really had (I quite like how they feel, on) is that when you're stitting, the tops don't stretch, and so if you are sitting for a long period of time, the tops can cut into the fleshy bits of your thighs that get fatter when you sit down. And if one of your garters lets go, the stockings are unforgivingly just going to fall right down.
Anyhow. The garments pass the test, and I fully endorse the site where Dave got them. Even though they're weird, crazy, and their model is in her sixties. You know what? If you're going to sell old-fashioned lingerie for full-figured people, it would be silly not to have a full-figured old lady as your model. (Honestly she's not bad-looking. And there's no nudity on the site, and some humorously not-quite-bad Photoshopping to avoid such, but tastefully.) They're one of those very sincere small businesses, and they were exceedingly helpful to Dave when he placed his order.
So, here's my plug:
Vicki's Nylons. They carry genuine, made-in-USA, 100% nylon stockings, manufactured on the same machines as made them in the 40s. They carry real, authentic 60's-era "bullet bras", as worn famously by Sweater Girls. They have girdles and garter belts and waist cinchers, besides the cutesy corsets and the like that you see all over the Internet. And, they have 'satisfied customer' photos from fetish pinup girls who rely heavily on their site for their gear.
And most importantly, they sell 1/2" elastic garters with all-metal fittings. Unlike the 1/8", plastic crap on the Frederick's of Hollywood stuff you can buy.
For any old enough to remember when this stuff was in fashion in the first place, who may have hated it, I agree-- I'd hate to have to wear it. But to be able to is really a lot of fun. And I feel so much more confident in my figure-- it's not like losing weight, because it's all still there, but it's where I want it to be, and in control, and that's a very liberating feeling. I don't have to be thinner. I can enjoy what I have and make it do my bidding.
And, y'know, the thing with the nylon stockings is that they feel really nice from the inside, too. When someone touches your leg, even if he has really cold hands, it's quite a pleasant sensation.
