writing is love, but editing is pain
Nov. 28th, 2004 12:18 pmSo. I finally finished the NaNo novel.
I did. I wrote every scene that was structurally necessary for the plot, and also wrote all the scenes necessary to flesh out the characters.
So the thing has a beginning, a middle, and an end.
Excitingly enough, it also seems to have a couple of themes, maybe some characters who progress, and perhaps even some rising and falling plot action type stuff.
That's all tremendous, and means I've done more than I ever have before. I've finished a novel.
Well, sort of.
But of course, it's quite rough. I realized 5/8ths of the way through that many of the ending scenes would have to be from the main male character's POV, when up until then the tale had been told exclusively from the female's limited POV. Looking back over earlier scenes, some of them would give the reader much more information if told from the male's POV, and the ending wouldn't be so abrupt but would actually seem more in context.
So I've gone through and done another outline. I know which scenes I have to rewrite. i don't need to write any entirely new scenes. I don't have to make up anything new.
And I have no motivation.
I just have to *do* it, but I can't summon the energy and enthusiasm I had for the project before. I want to move on to the next thing and have the thrill of creativity and original composition and all that bullshit.
This, my friends, is why I never finish anything.
Somebody come on over here and smack me.
