sentence meme
Nov. 5th, 2004 02:32 pmI saw this in
qowf's journal a while back and have been mulling it over.
A meme
If you happen to be working on some creative writing project, fanfiction or NaNoWriMo or what have you, post exactly one sentence from each of your current work(s) in progress in your journal. It should probably be your favourite or most intriguing sentence so far, but what you choose is entirely your discretion. Mention the title (and genre) if you like, but don't mention anything else. This is merely to whet the general appetite for your forthcoming work(s).
I have trouble being serious about these things, though. :) This would be much, much better if you were allowed to post, say, 100 words, or three short sentences, or something to that effect. Some of the best parts of my stories are the rapid-fire exchanges of dialogue.
Uh, obviously I need help with my titles.
Title: So far, "NaNoWriMo 2004", but I'll come up with something better.
Genre: Historical, possibly romantic, fiction. Set in Viking-Era Britain ca. 920 AD.
Completion: 25,000 words by later today, I hope
Available to read? Yes:
treigylgweith, friend that journal and I'll add you back and then you can read it.
Sentence:
Title: It has simply been known as "Novel-In-Progress" since I started it in January.
Genre: Fantasy, pseudo-historical.
Completion: About 500,000 words, but it needs a rewrite.
Available to read: Not very much, but an excerpt is now posted on bridget.kelly.name.
Sentence:
(The runner-up sentence for this, from the same conversation as above, was so, so, so very tempting that I feel I have to cheat and post it as well, even though it doesn't capture the essence of the story at all:
"Not to be crude, but you'd never fucked me like that before," she said with a delicate shiver.)
Title: So far, "Puritans", but I plan on something a little more descriptive.
Genre: Historical fiction. Set in 1640s New England and England, featuring my real-life ancestors.
Completion: Ughh, has to be totally rewritten, but was last year's NaNo and is over 75,000 words.
Available to read: Not yet, but at least part will be posted on bridget.kelly.name when that website is more complete.
Sentence:
Title: For ten years it has simply been known as The Novel. For two years before that, it was simply known as The Story.
Genre: Fantasy.
Completion: Ehh... I started it in 1991. I was 11. I didn't know anything about structure. It's huge, but it ain't nothin' like done.
Available to read: Uhm, not yet, but see website above.
Sentence:
