fileg's trick-or-treat post, I have three beautiful new icons.
In honor of that I purchased space for additional icons. God knows I hardly use the ones I have, but I just couldn't resist.
She made icons for people who left comments, based on the interests listed in their profile. (With some help from her husband,notarysojac (I hope I spelled that right).
So he made me one of Sive (Finn MacCumhal's mysterious first wife, who is either Sidhe herself or is abducted with them, mysteriously, and possibly winds up transformed into a deer who he hunts but kills his magical hound rather than risk harm to-- A very cool and weird and tragic character from the Fenian cycle, which I know less well than the Tain.) (I've used that one for this post.)
She also made me one of Olwen, from the Mabinogion-- the tale of Cylhwch and Olwen is one of the ones we read in my class with Prof. Higley.
And then, naturally, an icon of the Snork Maiden. That was my first online persona, when I first discovered the Internet in 95 or whatever year it was (I was a young teenager). If you don't know what a moomintroll or a snork maiden are, i recommend you look up Tove Jansson and do some reading. They are the best children's stories ever, written by a Swedish-speaking Finn. As Bjork once described them in a Rolling Stone interview, "they're sort of like Winnie-The-Pooh only far more anarchistic."
Our computer network is named Moominet for them, and Dave's wandering laptop is called Snufkin, while my adorable iMac is called Thingumy, and the frigid and distant SE-30 is called The Groke. My iPod is even named Salome for the bit-part character Salome The Little Creep in Moominland Midwinter (when Moomintroll awakes early from hibernation and invites everyone inside, and she sleeps in the bric-a-brac on the mantel).
Anyhow. I am at a loss as to how to display all this bounty (I am also adding a number of icons I had been considering but couldn't bear to use to replace any of the existing ones, pack-rat that I am).
I know, icons are a silly thing, but I am terribly fond of them.
