quote of the day:

"How can you lie there and think of England
when you don't even know who's on the team?"
Billy Bragg, Greetings to the New Brunette

We went grocery shopping and bought tremendous quantities of candy on the off-chance that trick-or-treaters might stop by. Seeing as we don't even have so much as a pumpkin, and everyone else has their houses decked out like it's Halloween of the Apocalypse and if you're not sufficiently over-decorated the Angel of Death will visit you, I don't know how many we'll get.

We also have all three movies of the Evil Dead trilogy, including Army of Darkness, so we have to watch those at some point.

Dave has just discovered, to his sorrow, that a belly that eagerly scoffed quantities of Sugar Babies and Bit O' Honey fifteen years ago is no longer able to do such with equanimity. We'll be eating dinner late tonight, I think. Sucks to be in your mid-twenties, don't it?

I figured out the genealogy of both my main characters now. The male's genealogy sort of fell into my lap-- I chose him a name at random that sounded cool, and then decided to have him descended from an obscure king whose kingdom was inherited by an under-king of his when he died-- only to discover that the king, who for my purposes would have to be his great-grandfather, apparently had a son with precisely the same name as the one I had chosen. Which would make my character handily named for his grand-uncle (who died childless). What a coincidence-- it wasn't even a very common name. (It's not like I called him Olaf. If any of you know anything about the Dublin Norse or the Icelandic Sagas, I've made him a great-grandson of Olaf I (The White), the first Norwegian king of Dublin once it was worth being king of, and a grand-nephew of Thorstein the Red, who was a king in Scotland and features in a later Icelandic saga, mostly because of his mother Aud the Deep-Minded.)
So he sort of brought himself to life, along with a whole slew of really handy events that coincided perfectly with various events of his childhood, including an important military campaign that began shortly after he would have been old enough to take arms. So his life immediately makes perfect sense.

She's not cooperating as well, but that's because I chose to put her in a less well-documented place, so I can muddle through that pretty well. At least I got her a name, something of a vague genealogy, and some kinfolks.

Shrug. I have so much research done now (I even know what kind of underwear she wears) that I really just want to write the damn thing. But the discipline is good for me.
