Yesterday, the service was turned on, but we couldn't hook up to it.
We had to wait for the router they sent (though we had one of our own, they made us use theirs).
They sent it via FedEx, Air, from Hornell NY to Buffalo.
You don't have to know a whole lot about geography to realize that's kind of silly.
They had to first deliver it to Horseheads, NY-- a town next to Elmira, which is in the Southern Tier of western/central NY. So, a couple hours out of Syracuse. Like, three.
Dave entered the FedEx tracking number on the package to figure out why it took FedEx 3 days to get the thing less than 150 miles.
Well?
They trucked it from Horseheads to Syracuse. Ok. From there, they flew it to Newark. Newark, New Jersey. Yeah. From there, they flew it to the Buffalo Airport in Cheektowaga, and then drove it the last 5 miles to our house.
Newark.
New Jersey.

Yeah. So when they called to ask us if we got set up OK, Dave asked if they realized they were paying extra to have their packages routed two hundred miles out of the way. Honestly, if they just dropped 'em in the mail, it'd take less than two days to get them here. Really. It makes no sense to ship by air when you live in Hornell, NY.

So anyhow. We have Internet now. I should be rejoining the world of the living now. I tell you, having no Internet has been really really weird. I've been hand-writing letters to family members, and it's just been strange. You realize, I have a whole different composition style, punctuation style, and phraseology when I write by hand? I use dashes a lot more, hyphenate things like mad, and am inordinately fond of parenthetical asides (which I always catch in my proofreading).
I also write with fountain pen, which doesn't help my spidery and eccentric handwriting.

I miss writing by hand. It adds a lot of character to what I say.
Which, some of you might say, is probably not strictly necessary.
But ah well.

I have much catching up to do with the online world, so I shall return to write, colorfully, a bit later.
