We have Inter-Net!
Dave had to send the application for DSL by mail, and they had to send us something by mail, which makes this all very slow and cumbersome.
However. In the meantime, he still has the DSL router from our last place.
So he hooked it up to the phone line, to see if the DSL company had yet asked the phone company to switch the service on. How could we tell? Well, when there is no connection present, the green light labeled ADSL blinks steadily.
This morning I was sitting in my bed typing (yes, I'm writing again, which is why it's a week later and we're still not fully moved in), and I heard Dave calling me from his bedroom. "C'mere and take a look at this!" he said.
"A look at what?" I asked, pattering down the hall in my bare feet. He was in his bed. He patted the bed in front of him.
"Come sit here," he said. I obeyed. "Look out the window." I craned my neck to look out the window, which would really be better done by standing up, not sitting on the bed. "No, no," he said, pulling me down so I was lying in the bed. "Look out from here. Isn't it beautiful?"
I couldn't see out the window at all-- there was a very oblique little patch of white sky. But, I realized, the DSL router was sitting on the windowsill. And the ADSL light-- was steady, not blinking. A connection!!
So. It was an exciting start to the day. Dave has promised to make me an InterNet. If I post this, he has succeeded. Yay!
