Have just read Beowulf, which I received for my birthday. It is wonderful.
Another thing I received for my birthday (from my parents) is a Norwegian-English (and vice-versa) dictionary. So I will be resuming my attack on the formidable Soga Om Gunnlaug Ormstunge, which I was given by my cousin as he thought I would be interested.
I don't know really how far I'll get. I still want to translate "hovdig" as "hovercraft", and I've forgotten what it actually meant by now. But anyhow.

We'll see how much of the Nordic / Germanic tradition winds up coming out my ears. It is quite handy in inspiring me about the Novel. Maybe I will resume the damn thing.
Does anyone want to provide constructive criticism (some of it structural) on a fantasy novel featuring Germanic-style barbarians? There may well be some bodice-ripping, and there will certainly be ponies and possibly dogs. Do let me know. There also may be Icelandic, depending on how my originality fares. I wish I were any good at making up languages.

I just watched an Icelandic film that we'll probably include in the festival. It's amazing to listen to.

I grew up around three different kinds of languages: English and the other Romance languages, the guttural sounds of Hebrew, and in high school, various Asian languages as heard in anime and kung-fu movies.

Compared to these, Icelandic doesn't even sound like a language at all, it sounds like someone attempting to whistle while gargling.
