stars in my eyes...
Aug. 1st, 2004 10:53 pm... ninja throwing stars.
That was irrelevant. Just occurred to me as an amusing sentence fragment dialogue.
Anyhow.
Spent almost all of today working on an update of Dave's aunt Ruta's computer. Had to give it a memory upgrade to get a new operating system on it, just to upgrade the mail client. So now her little grape iMac runs Panther.
My part in all this was to write a Help manual for her. An Intro To Mac OS X For Aunt Ruta. It was fun. I hadn't written help documentation in months. I'd forgotten how it could be kind of fun and yet suck.
So then I sat down and gave her a demo of it all, and explained how it all worked. It was kind of amusing.
In the midst of the work today, prior to bringing it over to her house, while Dave was struggling with Classic, and I was getting screenshots of all the icons, Dave's cousin Jen came over with the rent check. She rents the house we're going to rent from Dave's mom, and the rent is just the taxes and fees etc. on the house.
She said they just got their letter of commitment on the new house they're moving into, so they'll be moving in two weeks. Finally.
So, hopefully, in about 2 weeks, we'll be moving into the house.
Dave's mom is gone another 10 days, so I guess it won't be bad. Living here with just him is kind of fun. The only downside is that we can't go away for so much as a day, because we have to feed the dog and cat and let them in and out. I've been wanting to go home and visit my folks, but I can't, unless I take the train. And I like going with Dave. It's more fun with him.
Anyway. I guess I have a goal now: get a job before I move, so that I can get the car before we move, so that I can have the car to do the move. We won't need anyone's help if I have the minivan; none of our belongings is larger than the minivan. Every item of furniture we have has fit in that van at least once. Of course not all at once, but individually; there is not one thing that I can't move with it.
So if I could have it by then, we can move at our own pace on our own schedule. Dave's mom suggested that we just move a few things at once, since the house is so small-- just take over a vanload or so, take it in the house, set it up, unpack it, get it put away, and then take another vanload or so. Take our time, really get organized. And I think that's a good idea. I mean...
The distance between her garage and the new place is less than two miles. She doesn't care if there's stuff still in her garage. We always have a place to sleep here, even if the beds have been moved but not set up. So there's no reason to kill ourselves like with Westchester. We don't need a truck. If I get the van, then there's no hurry at all. So...
Anyway. I'm really looking forward to it. I really can't wait to have my own place again. I'd hoped it would be sooner, but I'll be happy if it's soon after Dave's mom gets back.
Our house is going to rule.
And you're all going to come visit us there. Right? :)
