Buffalo weekend
Jul. 11th, 2004 11:55 pmHad a double dose of Buffalo regional uniqueness this weekend.
Saturday night Dave and I saw Shakespeare in the Park.
It was good-- Henry IV pt. 1-- 25-man broadsword fight, highly entertaining. I enjoyed it. We drank Arbor Mist and ate DiBella's subs, and watched the couples around us making out. (Yes. Falstaff shouting for a cup of sack is the perfect setting for my makeouts. And dozens of people pretending to slaughter one another bloodily-- gets me totally horny. Sure.)
And today we went to Taste of Buffalo.
Picture, if you will, several city blocks, blocked to vehicular traffic, and given over to booths. Each of these booths is manned by a local restaurant. Each booth offers three separate dishes, costing between three and one dollars apiece.
And that's it.
The portions are small, and you roam along and get one of everything that appeals to you.
I had coconut-almond citrus shrimp, i had chicken gumbo, I had bananas foster, I had handmade waffle cones (watched the guy making the waffles), I had fried calamari, I had jerk chicken, I had chocolate and peanut-butter coated waffles, I had ... i don't even remember. And I wasn't particularly full at the end. I just had a little of everything. Just a taste of Buffalo.
It's a cool festival.
No, there weren't many wings. That's later, labor day weekend I think-- the Buffalo Chicken Wing Festival. :)
