one of those surveys
Jun. 21st, 2004 01:30 pmStruck me as amusing, stolen from Gypsum.
Yes, another dumb survey. But then, why not?
This took forever to fill out. I hope somebody reads it. Bleah. I didn't think it'd be so long!
x. [Wallet] Black cloth with velcro
x. [Hairbrush] black, got it at Wegman's
x. [Toothbrush] weird, blue, with rubber things on some of the bristles. Go figure. On sale at, again, Wegman's.
x. [Jewelry worn daily] Used to always wear high school class ring; lately I fidget too much with it so took it off. Used to always wear a crucifix necklace, lately don't bother. Used to always wear diamond stud earrings, my only jewelry of any real value, but lost one for a few months and got funny about wearing them.
So, none.
x. [Blanket] Purple vellux.
x. [Coffee cup] Don't drink coffee.
x. [Underwear] Bikini, usually cotton, sometimes satin.
x. [Shoes] Kitty slippers, or ancient Tevas. (How can sandals be so smelly? I wash them like every day and they're my stinkiest shoes. Gross.)
x. [Favorite shirt] Homemade t-shirt onto which I silkscreened the word "difficult".
x. [Favorite pants] Funky Old Navy pants that have laces at the sides.
x. [CD in stereo right now] Stereo? Ha. iPod.
x. [Tattoos] Never got one, wanted to be a tattoo artist tho'. May, someday.
x. [Piercings] Just ears, only once apiece.
x. [What you are wearing now:] Ancient corduroy pants with holes in the thighs, scuff slippers, and a U of R fencing t-shirt that says "Beat it, jab it, stab it, fence it" on the back.
x.[Hair] Blond. (Why is this question asked twice?) Long, got it cut a year ago for the first time in 6 years, am probably overdue for a trim. Could tuck braid into waistband last year; now it's about an inch too short.
x. [Do you like candles] A decent source of illumination when the power goes out, and they create a nice atmosphere, but there hasn't been a good power outage here in years.
x. [Do you believe in love] I believe that what most people think is love, isn't.
x. [Do you believe in love at first sight] See above. That's lust, honey. It may be a good foundation for a relationship, but it's not love.
However, you may hit it off well with someone in the first conversation, and that might be love. But it's indistinguishable from people with whom you simply hit it off well at first go. Love can happen quickly, but it takes a long time for it to prove itself.
x. [What do you want done with your body when you die] I want a wake like Tim Finnegan's.
x. [What are you gonna do when you're older?] Get old, most likely. Do you mean, as a career? Bah, search me.
x. [How many songs do you have on your computer?] According to iTunes, "7168 songs, 19.7 days,. 28.04 GB."
x. [What band are you listening to now?] None at the moment. Most recent was apparently BareNaked Ladies, but I think it had switched over to Operation Ivy and I just didn't finish the song.
x. [Look out your window...?] The weird neighbor guy, who I suspect is hiding bodies in his garage.
x. [If you could have any animal for a pet?] I kind of want a cat but that's kind of a lot of commitment.
x. [What is the longest you've ever stayed up?] I pulled almost-all-weekers in college but that was a while ago. Probably three days in a row is my limit, without ANY sleep.
[ When was the last time you ... ]
x. [Smiled?] Just now, Dave walked in and I said hi.
x. [Laughed?] Man, I laugh all the time.
x. [Cried?] I haven't *really* cried in ages. I teared up a bit when Dave's mom said that one of her special ed kids hugged her and cried when she told him he got the highest grade in the class on the state science exam for 4th grade.
x. [Bought something?] I don't buy things much. I'm on a no-spending kick, that's lasted about a year now. Last time I bought something was probably Thursday, when I got groceries at Wegman's. I may have paid bills since, however.
x. [Danced?] Danced... I think I danced to a commercial a couple days ago, in a highly sarcastic fashion... I don't dance, seriously, but I dance sarcastically a lot.
x. [Were sarcastic?] Me? I'm never sarcastic.
x. [Had a nightmare?] Couple days ago, I dreamed I'd done something horrible to offend Dave's mom, and I cannot shake the feeling of unease. Ugh, terrible. I'm going to start getting up earlier.
x. [Last book you read] Mmm... In its entirety, the last book I read was probably Cavaliers and Roundheads: The English Civil War, 1642-1649 by Christopher Hibbert. Blame that on the attempt to write a novel about George Denison.
x. [Last movie you saw] The Dark Crystal, rented from Netflix, last night. There was much heckling. "Oklahoma? Rochard is in Oklahoma?" "No, Aughra has the shard." "Ohhhh.... Rochard is in Oklahoma."
x. [Last thing you had to drink?] Pink lemonade. Really, really tart pink lemonade.
x. [Last thing you had to eat] Annie's Organic Whole Wheat Shells And Cheese. And a chocolate peanut butter cup for dessert.
[ Body ]
x. [What do you most like about your body?] Boobs. They have their own personalities, and they keep me company. As far of parts of me that I think are attractive, I think I have particularly well-formed lips, but nobody else seems to care about that.
x. [And least?] My belly would be cuter if the rolls of fat were a little smaller and less jiggly, I've decided.
x. [How many fillings do you have?] None, actually, though the dentist did some weird thing where he decided that various of my molars were going to develop cavities in a couple years, so he sort of abraded some of the enamel and then coated them with some kind of ceramic. I don't know if that counts as a filling. Until then (3 years ago) I'd never had a filling.
x. [Do you think you're good looking?] I have my good points. Crazy homeless people think I'm gorgeous.
x. [Do other people often tell you that you're good-looking?] Dave says my butt's flat and kinda lumpy. Also, crazy homeless people propose marriage from time to time.
x. [Do you look like any celebrities?] Ahhh... umm... No, probably not.
[ Fashion ]
x. [Do you wear a watch?] I lost my big clunky $20 Wal-Mart little boys' digital watch with timer and beepers about 3 years ago and never got around to replacing it. Also, the battery in my pocket watch died.
x. [How many coats and jackets do you own?] Many. How many are untattered and reasonably fashionable? 2.
x. [Favorite pants/skirt colour?] I prefer denim or black or brown, but often end up wearing khaki or lighter colors because, well, I have them.
x. [Most expensive item of clothing?] What, people pay money for clothes?
My mom made me a dress recently that probably cost $40, not counting labor... Umm... I think I have an expensive blazer I had to get for high school...
x. [Describe your style in one word] Style? What, there's supposed to be like some unifying theme in my appearance?
Oh.
x. [ Your Friends ] What about them? Are they stylish? Well, put it this way: Dave hasn't shaved in three weeks and his jeans have a hole in the ass.
x. [do your friends know you?] That's kind of a prerequisite.
Well, I suppose not-- I have online friends who don't really. But it's just a matter of time; see below.
x. [How many people do you tell everything to?] Everyone; it's called a blog.
OK, maybe not everything; I probably really only tell everything to one person, and he doesn't really want to hear it all...
[ Music/TV/Books ]
x. [Favourite band ever?] Dunno... I like a lot of bands. iTunes points out that I've listened to an awful lot of Morphine. I'll put that on there.
x. [Most listened to bands?] Consulting iTunes, it looks like Morphine, Mark Knopfler, Billy Bragg, Danu, the Chieftains, Dolores Keane, Esquivel, Susan Tedeschi, and Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers, not really in that order.
x. [Do you find any musicians good-looking?] Oh, the drummer from Danu is a total rock star.
x. [Type of music most listened to?] Blues, blues-rock, folk-rock, Irish traditional, alt-country-with-emphasis-on-the-blues-rock-part.
x. [Type never listened to?] There's nothing I'll categorically deny. I even have one rap album, not that I actually purchased it. But it has to say something, dammit.
x. [Favourite book?] Mmm... The Two Towers, or possibly Kinsella's translation of the Tain, if we're going by sheer number of re-reads.
[ General Questions ]
x. [What do you prefer, a sunny or rainy day?] Depends on mood, temperature, and what I have to do that day. Sunny and breezy if I have to drive or walk; rainy and miserable if I have to nap and write; rainy and warm if I have to run around in mud puddles in my bathing suit, etc.
x. [Do you consider yourself lucky?] Not really, but I'm not unlucky either.
x. [Do you feel pity for people who commit suicide?] I feel pity for the people they leave behind.
x. [Choose one word to describe how you feel most often] Distracted.
x. [Do you own any plaid clothing?] Sure. PJ's, for sure. Boxers. Sadly, I don't own a kilt. I'd like one, though.
x. [Is there more than one zipper in your pants?] Not currently.
x. [Do you own braces?] Suspenders, you mean? No. Braces for teeth? Not in 15 years.
x. [Does your hairstyle exceed a height of 3 inches?] Never has. It's got all the volume and body of a dead snake.
x. [Would you classify your hair as a deadly weapon?] If I braid it and put those plastic baubles at the end, it can give me quite a crack in the teeth during physical activity. I also have used it as a noose. Sometimes I wear it around my neck as a necklace.
x. [Do you have a favorite brand of hair dye?] No. I've never used hair dye.
x. [Do you own a bandana?] Yeah, but it's kinda raggedy. I meant to get a bigger one, but see, I don't have a convertible so I probably don't need to.
x. [Are you amused by safety pins] They make good jewelry.
x. [Have you ever used duct tape as a sewing substitute?] Yes, of course.
[about you]
x. [Age] 24
x. [Birthday] Aug 26th
x. [Sign] Virgo, I think
x. [Location] Currently, Buffalo NY
x. [Natural hair colour] Blond
x. [Current hair colour] Blond. I was thinking of blond highlights, what do you think?
x. [Eye colour] Blue
x. [Height] 5' 7" (... ok, ok, 5' 6 3/4". I was 5' 7" for years and suddenly they decided to subtract a quarter inch on the official measurement. Go figure.)
x. [Shoe size] 9ish.
x. [Parents] OK, I phoned home yesterday for father's day and my dad couldn't come to the phone, he was hunting woodchucks. Fortunately he killed his mark as my sister was explaining this to me, so he could come inside and talk to me. He explained that if the woodchucks got in Mom's vegetable garden again this year, there would be "much wailing and gnashing of teeth", and we just don't want that.
My mother then complained that I didn't want to talk to her, so I did, but she had nothing to say, and hung up so that she could watch the Yankees on TV.
My parents are wacky, and I like it more and more the more I live elsewhere.
x. [Siblings] Three sisters: Katy, 26, an Army captain stationed in Georgia; Fiona, 22, recently graduated and contemplating pennilessness; Ann, 19, an eco-freak at Cornell.

x. [Month] I'm fond of April, the cruelest month, but I also like December because of family traditions.

x. [Movie] You know, I'm less into movies than most. Lots of 'em don't stand up to repeated viewing. I did, however, adore The Price Of Milk, and I'm fond of Tampopo as well.
x. [Food] Mmmm... pulled pork, or jerk chicken, or homemade ice cream.
x. [Season] I like spring because it changes so fast.
x. [Class] I loved my Medieval Celtic Literature class.

x. [Flower] Lilacs. I'm going to plant a lilac bush when I move into the new house.
x. [Car] I had a minivan for a while. I'll probably get it back again. 1994 Plymouth Voyager, with 120,000 miles on it and a bum side door.
