letting out a long sigh

vancouver might be just my kinda town
cuz they ain't got the kind of law and order
that tends to keep the good man underground
Steve Earle, "My Uncle" (about the draft)
I'm collecting bizarre (and preferably either pithy or vapid) music quotes because I recently read an otherwise very good fanfiction that was sprinkled throughout with irrelevant quotes from Shania Twain and The Backstreet Boys and the like. It was a well-written story but that sort of pushed it over the edge from being cute and coy to being obnoxiously virginal, if you know what I mean. (It was a romantic fanfiction and while I was enjoying the flirtatious and twisty plotline, the quotes gave it the air of having been written by a 14-year-old who'd never actually kissed a boy. I know; I used to write romances when I was like that.)
Anyway.
I had a wonderful weekend, and it was a long weekend indeed. I didn't get around to coming back here until Wednesday. I really am blessed to have the family I do, and I mean that in as general and nondenominational a way as possible. I mean, yes, Katy's bossy and Fiona's whiny and Ann's bratty, but in the best possible ways. I may be changing Easter plans to come to Melrose instead to see them all.
I did miss Dave. He's a funny fuzzy goofy boy who is unreasonably afraid of octopuses, but for all that, he's my boy and I think he's the greatest.
I also got fitted for a dress Mom's going to make me, and we determined that it's not that I'm fat, so much as that I'm shaped like no other human being. So. Yes. I should really make my own clothes and stop supporting the fashion industry but, y'know, I just don't know how to sew or have the time or attention span. Sigh.
if I did make my own clothes you can bet your ass I'd wear corsets and look fucking awesome all the time. I've even started to figure out what kinds of lines suit me. And I tell you this, it's not anything you're going to find in a goddamn department store. Depressing.
Well, I have much more to say but don't feel like it just now. I just felt the need to paste that Steve Earle quote somewhere once I'd transcribed it, and thought maybe I'd give this blog a poke and see if anything had broken while I was gone.
I will update the novel again, I promise, it's just that over the weekend I got sidetracked by a side plot that doesn't fit, and I've had to pursue that to its end, and I know, I'm lame, and hopeless, but I had to do it. And, I'll have a rush paying job this week (working for dave's company, actually) and that'll take a bunch of time as well. So. Yes. I'm still a novelist and I'm still going to finish this goddamn thing before I'm 25. You wait and see.
