I'll link to the sites he sent me in the extended part of the entry.
Basically, somebody went through all the histories of early New England and made a timeline with quotes from all of them, and capitalized the last names of everyone mentioned by name.
So. Freaking. Handy.
Sometimes the sources contradict one another. Sometimes they corroborate one another. Sometimes they're spelled wrong. Sometimes they don't make sense. Sometimes they're out of order.
But for the most part, it's absolutely freaking invaluable.
MUCH better than all the stupid duplicate poorly-maintained genealogy pages that come up when you search on any of the names in question.
I could only find this resource in Google by quoting a passage from it. I don't know why it's so hidden. I'm probably going to start a genealogy section on here, and these will certainly be prominently linked-to.

Summing up, most of what I know is right but most of what I've assumed is wrong, so I've some re-tooling of things to do. Everthing I've written will have to be dismissed as character development, which is just as well. I've over 60,000 words now, but much of it is utter crap. Still, enough to get me through NaNoWriMo, and a good foundation to bury under something solid soon.
I don't know when I'll have time to pursue the project in earnest, but I sure do anticipate it being a lot of fun. Someday.

It's About Time 1600, < ahref="http://www.rootsweb.com/~ctnewlon/billc1625.html"> 1625, < a href="http://www.rootsweb.com/~ctnewlon/billc1650.html">1650, 1700. Early New England history from primary and secondary sources. (Some tertiary, I rather think. Whatever.)
I also found the homepage of the Denison Society, who maintain the ancestral manse at Pequotsepos, Connecticut. The site's fairly naieve (a nascent kind of folk-art, what do you think?) and the Society's fairly cash-strapped. I was moved by their plight, and signed up at their forum, but it was MSN chat and the javascripts broke in Safari, my browser of choice. Oh dear. So, I couldn't post a message, and since I haven't got Mozilla on this machine yet I'm out of luck. (I don't use IE. It's just... not right. And, IE for Mac is a crappy bastard stepchild anyway.)
So, I wrote them a nice note to the webmaster, and am pondering whether I can do anything to help them out. Short of the novel being a roaring success and getting made into a movie and luring millions to come to the museum and donate money.
Next year is the 350th anniversary of the Denison family's arrival on that property, so they're trying to ramp things up but not well. So, I may see what I can do.
Anyway... Great resources and I wish I'd started looking for, and found, them in October. Ah well.
