beta-testing a novel?
Nov. 4th, 2003 09:42 amI'm thinking of doing a "public beta" of the novel I'm writing for NaNoWriMo, as an exercise in editing.
I'm actually thinking that last year's novel would be far more constructive.
I want to do this before NaNoWriMo ends-- at least set it up, that is-- because I want to get some of the warm bodies on the NaNo forums involved. There are a lot of really interested and motivated people over there, but the forums close down after the event's over.
So, I should get the site set up asap and post about it there.
I think it would be a fascinating adaptation of the editing process.
Get this straight-- I'm not open-sourcing my novel. That would be very hard for me to do. But a public beta-- people could submit bug reports, etc...
I dunno, it would be entertaining. And it's the only way that layla and the space pirates are ever going to get made into something.
It would also be a good teaching exercise.
Hmmm..... And it has the potential to teach me a lot about being edited.
I have to devote some thought to this. Namely, I have no idea how the software beta process works.
Also, my blog has no comment system. I'd need a good one if I wanted to do this. It would have to be easy to use, and it would have to be easy to manage. :/
Must devote thought-- and quickly!
Sigh. The boss' brother is sitting next to me again, awake this time, and talking to himself incessantly. It's maddening.
