Lxrryxx (screen name changed to protect the totally uninvolved) has just gradutated with her Bachelor's in Illustration from a reputable four-year college. I have known her since we were three.
She does not read my livejournal regularly, but was intrigued by my description of the debate in this entry (yes, the same damn one), and decided to participate.

Lxrryxx (10:52:02 PM): As an artist, I'd like to make a comment.
Lxrryxx (10:53:27 PM): Artists regularly claim that art is supposed to be 'free', as in free of criticism, and that we as artists should be free to make any art that we choose.
Lxrryxx (10:54:30 PM): That no matter who it offends or hurts, that it should be made, and that it should be allowed to exist simply because of that hard - to - define right about free speech.
Lxrryxx (10:55:11 PM): I do not believe that that's true - we regularly censor art.
Lxrryxx (10:57:12 PM): We don't allow art that would be hurtful to black people or any minority in any museum. Why? Because that would be hurtful and insulting. Movies are rated. Why is that? Because you don't want anyone just walking to see them. Stories are regularly edited for content.
pxngxnqx (10:58:09 PM): freedom of speech only extends as far as the next person's nose.
pxngxnqx (10:58:20 PM): you're not allowed to hurt people.
pxngxnqx (10:58:27 PM): by law.
Lxrryxx (10:58:33 PM): It may be our right to just make these things, but we don't - the internet is one thing, but a flyer in a public place is different
Lxrryxx (10:58:43 PM): And that's exactly my point.
Lxrryxx (10:59:01 PM): Or does it seem a bit outlandish to say it that way?
pxngxnqx (10:59:27 PM): you can say things people don't want to hear. but you can't just irresponsibly hurt people.
the most compelling reason, i argued, was that if you can say anything, anyone can say anything back. if you say bitchy things, people are going to be bitchy to you. if that's what you want, fine, but you cannot complain when it happens.
pxngxnqx (10:59:37 PM): but no, that makes perfect sense, what you said. that's pretty much how i said it.
Lxrryxx (11:01:21 PM): I hate that free speech crap. It's an excuse for a bunch of whiners to freeload as artists. It's one thing to whine, but it's another to mascarade as a profession and give someone innocent a bad name.
Lxrryxx (11:05:49 PM): And I'd like to point out also: Please excuse me for saying this if it offends you at all, but why in hell would you go around reading stuff like this when you don't even know the person? That's just proof that this guy is a grade - A super jumbo loser.
