I find the big fandoms based off one movie so easy to slip into, and I’m super into SW because there’s more canon but it’s kind of passed-into-lore kind of canon, so. I find it’s not a bad place to be a casual fan.
But Found Cat is way over even on the edge of casual– I sort of screwed up doing the thing I love in AUs where the author works the canon characters in as different-but-sameish people, and I completely missed the boat on that; I stuck the other X-Wing pilots into Poe’s study group on the grounds that while some of them may have known him for a while, most didn’t know him long, and so that was reasonable– and then I gave him a huge backstory with a mariachi band, and having already used the squadron elsewhere, I was left with no choice (my arm was srsly so twisted and i spent exactly two seconds thinking this over) but to use OCs for the mariachi band who are actually his closest friends.
So uh. Somebody’s basically writing original fic over here and trying to dupe people into reading it.
I could have made more of an effort to pull in canon characters, and I just didn’t. Like, Leia shouldn’t just be a distant figure of legend, but she is. It’s a very careless job, from that perspective of How To Do Fannishness. But! It’s Finn and Poe, so, technically, I’m not wrong in tagging it as I have.
