assortment
Jun. 20th, 2011 09:31 pmI'm officially booked solid through the end of the summer. They're interviewing people at work; I'm skeptical we'll actually get someone trained in enough time. I bet you anything we'll get two or three new people on and it'll turn out they're not available right when we need them to be; that's just how it normally goes.
Guy did the schedule through the end of July, and I'm on every single Saturday I didn't already request off, except for one, which I think he thought i'd requested. So I'm going to seize that opportunity to go visit my parents. He was complaining that I'm not available very many Saturdays, and I'm like, well, all year I put my life on hold for derby, so when it's not derby season, I have to fit in what the rest of y'all have 52 weeks to do. So there's that.
Yesterday we managed to square away a bunch of assorted things. Got a gift for the friends whose wedding is next Saturday, I cut out and started assembling the shrug I need to go over my dress for the wedding. We found a bedframe for Pennsic at Penneys-- well, had to order one; wasn't perfect, but close enough-- and found a clothes rack at Bed, Bath, and Beyond; found a ghetto cheap outdoor carpet at Wal-Mart, and Z was delighted to discover it fit neatly in his car, going through the trunk's ski-pass-through and just coming to rest on the center console. Also got a new queen size air mattress; the king size one we had before, which unzips into two twins, has developed some sort of slow leak in one of the two compartments. We'd wanted to phase it out anyway, so we'll just try to find the leak and fix it and keep it for guests instead.
Assembled and today finished hand-sewing the shrug, and just now I dyed it-- it was silk velvet, undyed, from Dharma Trading Co., lined with silk habotai from same, so I dyed it pale blue. After the wedding, I'll decide if I want to keep it that color, or overdye it to black to wear for the roller derby banquet with my fabulous tiger-stripe dress.
I did so much handsewing on the shrug because it turns out velvet is kind of a bear to work with, and also that way I could use silk thread, which would also dye. Waiting for it to dry to see what color it turned out. Might dye it a darker blue after the wedding instead...
I still need shoes. I want silver sparkly ones. The fashion this season seems to be stiletto heels. I can't stand up in stilettos. I need slightly chunky heels, at least an inch square, so that I don't fall off them. Also the very idea of walking across grass in stilettos gives me ankle twinges. No can do, sir, no can do. So I gotta find sparkly silver shoes with a moderately chunky heel, somewhere local, since I need them by Friday. They can be between two and four inches high, don't care if they're platforms, don't care if they're open-toe or not, don't care about slingback or strappy or t-strap or what, really have no other preferences, except that if the toes are pointy my feet won't fit in them, open or not.
Argh.
Also, I want to get a manicure and maybe a pedicure. I realized I am almost 32 years old and have no idea whatsoever how to go about doing this. Like, really no idea. I guess I'll just wander into a place and ask them to do their thing? I've no idea how much it costs or how long it takes or what kind of options I need to consider. My nails are wicked long and it's taking everything I've got not to bite them. Yes, I bite my nails. It's not compulsive, hasn't been since I was like 8, it's just that when I notice they're too long, I bite them shorter, and that's just how I've always handled it. And yesterday I noticed they were too long, so now it's taking my concerted effort of will not to bite them short. Because they're long and girly and perfect for looking pretty and decorative.
