oh so i’m like ‘why’d y’all change the locks while I was gone lol hurtin my feelings’ and the girl who let me in [in her defense, she arrived for a 9:00 start time at 8:58, that’s only lack of punctuality if you’re the kind of OCD/Can’t Tell Time like me where ten minutes early is five minutes late really], daughter of the new manager, was like
‘oh this is a good one right? on sunday, [former manager = idiot coworker who I complained about so much on this blog and counted down until she left] calls and is like hey guys leave the printer on, me and [another former employee who quit like a year and a half ago] are gonna come in after the store is closed and do some printing!’

okay, ten years ago, when [other former employee] was manager, we used to let employees [EMPLOYEES! not FORMER employees!] print after hours, because of a number of factors, but about six or seven years ago, BEFORE [former manager I hated] EVEN STARTED WITH THE COMPANY, there was an issue with an employee coming in off-hours and stealing shit, and so we formally changed the policy so that no employees could be in the store when the store was not open. (Repeat: BEFORE she EVEN STARTED HERE, we had this policy.) (Also: we had a policy for a brief span that nobody worked alone, which is where I got such a complex about being alone in the store, and the district manager, back when we had one, was so not-understanding about this when it was HIS policy and I was like but I can’t be alone in the store and he was like what is your deal. Ugh. Anyway.)
Did I mention that NEITHER of the two people above actually work for the company anymore? which of them still has a key?
ohhhh now I remember! when Former Manager left, she lost her keys that last week, (and like, texted me when I was 300 miles away at my other job, being all where are you i was counting on you to let me in and i was like bitch i’m part time if you need me to be there you gotta confirm with me that it’s a day i’m actually working what the fuck)– I bet you anything she found them within a couple days, and was like oh, i’ll just hang onto this, because that’s totally normal and professional behavior. And now it’s been like. Most of a year.
Also the girl she was speaking to on the phone is the daughter of the current manager, and very naturally, instantly called her father and was like Dad really you okayed this?

–think about this, the current manager of the store–
he was like what? this is the first I’m hearing of this
IN WHAT UNIVERSE would it EVER be okay for two EX-EMPLOYEES to LET THEMSELVES INTO their FORMER workplace to use a $20,000 piece of equipment with no supervision?????? and no approval????? I don’t care how chill the company is, it’s absolutely insane to even expect that!
Bonus: the other dude working that day, besides the new manager’s daughter, was a guy [former manager] had fired, basically the only person ever to have ever been fired by this company, and she’d fired him because he didn’t bother pretending to toe the line with her weird pseudo-corporate initiatives, he was like lady i’m just going to do my job? and she was like no more hours for you! and duh of course the new manager hired him back because he actually knew how to do stuff around here. (I didn’t go to bat for him because it’s not like he’s good at the job, but fuck, nobody is, what the fuck. He still did more around here than she did.)
But she just expected this guy to just, I don’t know, have no problem leaving the printer un-closed-down for her?
I BET YOU ANYTHING that the two of them are SO SCANDALIZED that we would object to this. I bet you ANYTHING that at least one if not both of them has a passive-aggressive rant about loyalty on her Facebook page right now. I just bet you.
She’s going to be pissed that the guy she fired and the daughter of the new manager were not more loyal to her. I don’t even know.
I’m not going to go look. It’s cool. But I can absolutely hear it in my head. In her uniquely annoyingly grating voice. I just. I’m just saying, I don’t have to imagine it, I can reconstruct it out of other shit she’s said.
(The printer’s shutdown protocols are really obnoxious, and it can take over an hour for the thing to come back up to temp if it’s been shut down, and sometimes it won’t at all, so I guess thank heavens for that, who knows if they’d’ve called ahead otherwise. But what the fuck.)
