torrilin reblogged your post and added:

Yeah, and what I’m saying is I don’t have to make phone calls. I get referred to a specialist and either the appointment gets set up while I’m in with the doc making the referral, or it gets set up before i leave the building. Yes, sometimes I have social anxiety and I’ll freak about talking to the receptionist. But if that happens I can go online and make the appointment via the website. […]

ohhhh no, I did not pick that up from the initial reblog, I am sorry.

Nobody around here seems to do anything like that. It’s all literally scribbled on notes of paper– scrap paper, the torn-off half from prescription pads like this was elementary school or something. In more than one case it was a name and I was instructed that i had to ask the receptionist to look up who that person was and get me a number. It very firmly gave the impression that no one had ever needed to see a specialist before.

Nobody around here does online appointments or anything like that. There are websites that’ll tell you if the doctor takes your insurance or not but they’re not actually managed, so nine times out of ten you finally call and they’re like what no, we haven’t taken that insurance for years, no way. or, it says we’re accepting new patients but we aren’t, we’ve told them a thousand times, stop bothering us.

Etcetera. Delightful.

And then they wonder why so many people rely on urgent care for shit that they should’ve seen their PCP about.

Oh! Oh! My FAVORITE is that now the routine blood tests your doctor used to just– do for you? Like, as part of the visit? You have to go to a totally separate place for those, the same place people go to get drug-tested for jobs, the same place people go for like, court-ordered monitoring, so the receptionist is behind bulletproof glass and there’s ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE in that waiting room okay, most of whom do NOT want to be there, and you gotta go there just to get your blood drawn for your routine tests, and you can’t go to your followup appointment with any meaningful data unless/until you do, so i just never did.

Last time I went to one of those places I fainted, because I faint when I have blood drawn, it happens every time. And it was so unpleasant, I was among all these strangers in a place I’d never been in this just grungy little place that only has blood-drawing technicians and tries its best I’m sure, but I was so unhappy.

So I won’t do that either, both for the calling people scribbled on pads of paper in bad handwriting aspect, and for the hell no that place was nasty.

I’m just going to die of preventable, treatable things, because this is such a shitty series of hoops and my completely probably treatable minor illnesses are less bad than dealing with that shit.
