good with the bad
Jun. 2nd, 2011 11:51 amSpent over $300, which is way over my normal clothes budget, at pinupgirlclothing.com buying dresses that might possibly work for the wedding I'm in.
All three dresses look spectacular.
One is patently unsuitable-- I need to wear my favorite color, "Bold but not dark", "preferably pastel", "solid not print". And it's a tiger stripe dress. But I had planned on wearing it to a different event anyway. I look fucking fantastic in it, though I need to take in the straps by about two inches-- it won't show and will be about three seconds' work with a needle, so I don't mind.
One is strikingly gorgeous-- a mock wrap-front, satin, shirred, ravishing, low cut but not too low cut. I have the dress already, in a tiki flower print, and had been wanting an excuse to get another copy of it for literally five years. So I'm happy with it. But it's a deep rich blue-- definitely bold, not dark, but in no wise remotely pastel by any stretch of the imagination.
The third is the only one I will be able to bring myself to send back. It's a deep, rich, electric teal, peacock almost, and fits me gorgeously-- a less stretchy but still clingy fabric that somehow manages not to make my figure look lumpy. (I'm a very pear-shaped woman with enormous tits, so I can pass for hourglass under many circumstances, but my waist and hips are similar in size. Vintage-style "retro" wiggle dresses look phenomenal on me despite my relative lack of ass-- I have a broad, flat white-girl bum that fools many people, and I love it dearly.) However, it is no more pastel than the other dress, and the straps will need adjusting, and it hits just below my knee, which is an awkward length. (I think it looks good, but it's a little weird.)
But coincidentally the hair flower I ordered is precisely its shade, and I want to keep the hair flower, and now I wish I had enough occasions in my life to wear vintagey wiggle dresses (as all three are) so that I could justify keeping that third dress. It is cute and Z likes it, but, I'll probably keep the other two.
I have to go email everyone else to see whether they think a bright bold blue will stick out too much from the other pastel dresses. But I don't care, I'm keeping that blue dress.
There will be pics, I promise, I'm just in bed in my underwear right now. Which is damn comfy, but not photogenic. ... Well, not that kind of photogenic.
