The thing is. The thing is! He probably would do pretty well at fucking up half a dozen pirates with a boxcutter. Even at twenty, he has Seen Some Shit and has excellent reflexes and a phenomenal killer instinct, and you know, he’s participated in enough livestock processing that he’s pretty level-headed about blood and dying, even when it’s sentients. (The mystery of life loses some of its mystery after the literal-thousandth chanticlo you exsanguinate, even if it’s not your favorite thing in the world. Like, you’re not into it, but you know how this goes.)
But he really doesn’t want to, and also he knows he’ll get in trouble– if not from the authorities, then definitely from Norasol. He’s not so great at talking his way out of stuff but he would vastly prefer that. Fortunately for him, this scene doesn’t actually turn into a bar fight.
tl;dr he wasn’t military before the Rebellion but he also wasn’t exactly a pacifist.
