the dirt
so interesting the fear that some buckaroos have over letting their art into the world because it is ‘not perfect’. first of all it never will be. second of all the dirt and mess and truth are not problems we learn to get over and accept, they are literally what makes art great
I have this quote on my desktop, from Lady Augusta Gregory, who was a patroness (and uncredited co-author) of William Butler Yeats, and she wrote this in a note accompanying one of the plays she wrote.
“But if the dreamer had never tried to tell the dream that had come across to him, even though to 'betray his secret to the multitudes’ must shatter his own perfect vision, the world would grow clogged and dull with the weight of flesh and clay. And so we must say 'God love you’ to the Image-makers, for do we not live by the shining of those scattered fragments of their dreams?” (Your picture was not posted)
