so mom has mostly finished dealing with the paperwork of dad’s death. his military pension will resume (i think she gets half of what he was getting? might be slightly more– but think about that! they stop paying when he dies! and then you have to go through paperwork to prove there’s still someone to receive it! thank god she’s not relying on that but has her own pensions and retirement stuff set up. man our entire society is really set up to fuck widows over.)

She also was trying to sort out his Social Security stuff– and in the midst of that, got a spam call telling her that her Social Security card had been cancelled.

Fortunately she is in posession of all her wits as of yet, and knew immediately that this was fraudulent.

She did manage to get through to the SSA today and confirm she’ll have to send in a copy of the marriage certificate to get survivor benefits from them (this is apparently a thing), but.

Did the spammers know she was in the midst of this process??? thank God she’s together enough to have known better! I just– I hate, I hate scammers like that, who prey on vulnerable people. Of all the things to go after someone for–

Years after my dad's death, I still get calls and letters about "lost cash" which never existed. I hate it SO MUCH.
