I love the Południca myth a whole lot, because it’s all about how a harvest demon will come get you if you’re working in the fields at noon in the summer, and such deaths are easily scientifically explained by sunstroke, heart attacks, exhaustion and other health issues that might affect peasant workers who are out in the sun all day, plus you have the startling visual effects of small, brief whirlwinds which are not uncommon in the summer when the pressure changes and would frighten people

but

all of this also means that something can and does happen to people out in the fields when it’s hot and the sun is high.

So, beware of noonwraiths.
