what am i doing

I mean, i know what i’m doing, i’m having a blast, but.
well, so, here’s the thing. i’m writing all this Witcher fanfic and it’s all, like, they’re going to cover this exact ground in season 2, and also like, the books did this too, already. but here’s the thing: season 2 is forever away and i have zero faith it’ll be anything i like. and here’s the other thing: the books aren’t. well. they’ve got their charms but literally every review i read of them is like “welllllllll so it was actually pretty awesome but then this vaguely horrifying thing happened and you kind of have to just pretend it didn’t”.
So I’m not really tempted to read them, actually. And I’m not going to play a video game, I have never in my life played a video game. And it’s been fun, finding out more stuff from this enormous sprawling several-layers-of-canon kind of thingy. Like, sure!
But I am having fun, is what’s going on. I am making a thing, and it is a completely unnecessary and gratuitous thing, that started out simply with me saying “i dislike all these portrayals of this man who is supposed to be my age so I’m going to write him more realistically and see what happens”, and then saying “oh this other guy is absolutely the kind of traumatized idiot I love best so i’m going to write more of him”, and then there was this absolute heinous bitch of a really juicily complicated female character that i decided really needed to peg some people, and from there I’ve actually managed to uncover a whole bunch of really juicy plot and character ideas, so I’m just sort of spooling those out until I get to their logical ends.
So. That’s the state of the me, with this project. And of course I’m supposed to be working on that original novel but let’s be real there were several months of wretched writer’s block where I just didn’t do it, before, and I’d rather do this.
Because even if all of it is gratuitous, writing is like anything you practice, and no practice is wasted. even if you write really dumb things, you’ve still written them. And these things are really turning out rather entertaining, and people are enjoying them and telling me so, and that’s just a big bundle of nice for a shitty February wherein the world is on fire.
So, thanks for coming on this ride with me. We’ll see where it goes. I bet I can do at least one threesome before they turn the carousel off.
