Red is C, going up from there you have D, E, F (blue), G, A, B, C (red)… and so on. I also play harp a little. It’s not easy. It takes a while to build that into your head. Maybe put little sticky post-it flags on the tuning pegs labeling each note while you work.
Thanks! :) Normally I don’t care what the names of the notes are; I can find C, so I know the octaves, and then the vast majority of what I play is by ear. It’s so long since I was in any kind of orchestra or ensemble that I don’t ever use sheet music at all. I was never the best at reading music; I always memorized my parts by ear and played them that way.
But this is the only time I’ve ever attempted to write a song, because the narrative requires it. And, weirdly, it developed a tune in my head, and I can hear it very clearly, so I wanted to try to write it down to convey it. I can sing, but I just don’t feel like a recording of me singing it would sound good, so I’d rather just notate it out so that anyone who’s curious can find out how it goes. (And once I’m done with the story, I’ll probably forget, so it’d be better to write it down at least so I don’t get frustrated when I come back and the memory’s gone.)
But it’s been literal years since I touched that harp, and longer still since i touched the guitar I owned. I never could play either well enough to perform, even in a group. And it’s years since I even sang anywhere but to myself in my car, or to very small children.
I don’t even know how to hold my hands to play the harp. I just wanted to have one, so I do, and now it’s useful in the way that a piano is useful: for finding out what notes things are. *eyeroll @ self* oh well.
