I want to say spiders should be able to insulate themselves just fine, but what an intriguing thought.
I mean. Obviously they can. But. Their tiny spider paws! Their itty little legs! I was sad enough when I realized all my beautiful neoscona etc. barn spiders only live a year and die in winter, but for some reason i was just suffused with An Concern about the hogna etc. wolf spiders. They make burrows but only a few inches, they’re so wee– I mean, for spiders, they’re fucking enormous, but in the grand scheme of things, they’re only like an inch, inch and a half. And I mean, they don’t have blood or whatever, so I guess they wouldn’t suffer from cold, they’d just slow down.
But can you imagine tiny tiny spider sweaters and little booties for their tiny spider paws. OMG. I need to stop thinking about this.
